We only drive around town mainly, so the only thing we would probably be cutting back on is road trips. I've heard that it'll be $5.00 a gallon by December, it's ridiculous to me that we just get stuck with whatever they tell us we're gonna pay, they know we're not gonna stop driving all together. I hear people say, oh i'll just quit driving if it gets that high! That was during the last spike, they never quit driving and it honestly wouldn't matter. Unless more than half of the US did the same thing, it won't even raise an eyebrow, even then I doubt it would really matter to the government or the oil companies :tisk:
This reminds me of those stupid chain emails telling people to not buy gas on some certain day. Yeah- that'll show 'em- don't buy gas on this day, do it on the day before or after.

I wouldn't mind finding some truck/suv as a daily. A gas price spike may drive those costs down for me as people try to unload them. Might not be a terrible thing to happen...

I would be happy with a second gen X...

And gas out here is hovering around $3.40-$3.45 for regular, I believe...

You're right, this is the time to go for one. Just like last time the fuel prices spiked, everyone is gonna panic and try to get out of their gas guzzler vehicles, all to save a few bucks on fill ups

We traded in my wife's Chevy Aveo when we moved here on a QX4, we got a steal on the QX4 and they bought us out of the Aveo(which we should've been upside down in). The even better thing was that fuel prices came way down a couple of weeks later and that Aveo sat on their lot for 5 months :lolling:

The Commander only gets about 13-14mpg around town(thanks to AWD ) but honestly, I don't really care. It cost $60 to fill it up today at $3.45/gal, and that will last a week or maybe more, since we drive it the most. On the other hand, my I30 cost $50 to fill up yesterday and it'll last maybe a couple of days more than the Commander. Yeah I could go out an buy an econobox, but would it really make a difference? No.

I've got a misfire issue I haven't resolved due to diagnostic annoyances. It's costing me ~3-5mpg combined. I'm not too worried about it. I get by at 17.5mpg just fine. I do wish I still had the Q's 22 gallon tank to stretch those miles a little further, though.

I honestly don't really pay attention to gas prices these days. I hand the girl at the register a $50 and grab my change if there is any (which happens as often as not).

I like those emails. They're nice for planning wait-free fillups. Not that I ever wait anyway. But assurance is nice.

I filled up last night for $68 and change. I believe that it was $4.21 for 91.

I've already decided that with my tax return I'm going to pick up a Honda Ruckus for my commute. 100mpg!
The thing will damn near pay for itself in time.

Price jumped again today to $3.49. That is the price at the station nearest my house (4 miles away). In Sun City, (6 miles) it's 10 cents more. Next to my school, (about 20 miles away), it's 10 cents lower. How the hell do you figure that one?

The way I feel about all this is that we must have it to get places. Talking about how horrible it is does nothing. If I need or want to go somewhere then i'm going. What it costs to get me there is just something I have to deal with...

How much different were the prices (comparing US to Canadia) when the US dollar was stronger (say 5 years ago when it was about 75 cents US to one dollar in Canada)?

Looking around at the world we still arent paying anywhere near what most European countries pay per gallon.

This is because the USD is the form (or standard) of payment for oil and most worldwide transactions. So if lets say Germany is buying oil from the Saudi Arabia they must convert the Euro to USD. Eventually because the USD is weak and has nothing backing it (ex. gold, or precious metals) countries will eventually stop dealing with the US dollar, like China is doing as it slowly creeps away from using it. Then sets in hyperinflation. There is so much more involved with our economy than meets the eye and especially the Gas sign posted on the street. It concerns me, but it seems theres very little that can be done. Our country is on a downward slide.
Our lives are in the hands of greedy lawmakers politicians and OPEC who sits down and makes a corporate decision of where to set prices that are not based on supply or demand.

[quote]2/3/2011

Gas prices at two gas stations rose this week, bringing the cost of gas per gallon closer to the $5 mark.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Development recently approved gas price increases at Esso and Texaco.
Last week, a gallon of gas at Esso stations cost $4.72. Yesterday, a gallon of gas at Esso cost $4.77. Gas prices at Texaco gas stations have also increased by five cents, going from $4.61 per gallon to $4.66 per gallon. Shell gas stations are charging $4.70 for a gallon of gas.
The cost of diesel is $4.22 per gallon at Esso; $4.24 per gallon at Texaco; and $4.20 per gallon at Shell.

That's what I am hoping will help me score a good price on a used Frontier in May.

$3.47/gal 87 here in Central NY this morning.

After conversion, I'm paying approximatly $4.68/gallon. I got rid of my gas guzzler Jeep Cherokee 4.0 HO shortly after gas prices peaked in the aftermath of Hurricane Katerina. Both the baby Mercedes and Saab get excellent gas mileage, so it hasn't really affected my family. My wife and I figured in 2005 that higher gas prices where going to be an eventuality/daily reality so I downsized to 4 banger turbo engined vehicles.

3.69 for 87 minimum in Chicago. Isn't is 10 dollars per gallon in Europe if I haven't been misinformed?

Just threw in $20 yesterday.

$3.49 for 89. And that's the cheapest around by far.

Sucks man. I still wish I had my 240 instead of my V8 Bimmer. I can afford gas, but it's not fun when $20 just gets you a little over 1/4 of a tank.

Someone should sell gas in bulk by letting people pay a year in advance at a set cost per gallon.

Lowest for regular I saw in NH, near my parents in MA, was $3.40-something. Premium down near my place is hovering around $3.80 and $3.90, depending on the station.

I'm curious to know how these prices sit with an eye to history and inflation. It might not be as bad as we're all thinking, really, when you look at the price of everything.
