Just recently our dollar is finally comparable to yours, and everything there is cheaper (I like to cross the border and grocery shop ) for instance, cereal (which we have no fun flavors like americans) can be anywhere from 5-8$ a box in comparison to 2$ there (walmart) and our box is half the size here! groceries are cheaper there, beer is cheaper, smokes are half the price, and yes our incomes are higher here but we also fork out a lot more coin for the things we need like FOOD, clothes and housing..... crap you cant find much in the cities for less than 500,000, to rent a place is like 1500 and up, a month (for a dump)....sorry for my rant but you seem to be hating on canada, one peep from a canadian whining about gas prices and your right there to tell us to quit b*itchin??? things aren't so green on this side.
I visit canada once a year, I always go to toronto, I am not sure how it compares to other cities there, but I am sure its not the cheapest place in Canada. Every time I go there, I go to restaurants and I always comment how much cheaper it is than where I live (bay area, CA). I can get a dinner entree and a drink at a normal restaurant in Canada for around $10 or less, or a lunch combo for $4. Over here, I cant find a place less than $7 for lunch (chipotle type place) unless its mcdonalds or an equivalent fast food joint.
I do agree that alcohol and cigarettes are taxed heavily there, but your buds and munchies is cheaper
