the walbro should not effect the float thing, it may be the electical connections.

That is what I believe as well. I have also installed the fuel pump in question and I recently made it to a gas station where my wallet was able to feel the pain of my very first fill up. The Fuel gauge worked flawlessly after 2+ years of having the gas tank removed, and left upside down in the trunk of the car. You have to make sure you didn't bend the metal the float is on when removing/installing the pump. From what I saw, there is not much space between it and that plastic channel thing for the gas. It might be rubbing or stuck against it.

I definitely had it but never really cared. For the most part it was fairly accurate. Now it doesnt work at all. Bump for help on this one. Then again I'm a total wiring noob.

its the thing that the float it attached too, it reads the signal and translates it to the gauge,

I believe it is a 0 to 5v system, you could pull the whole thing out and use a multimeter to test and see if the sender is sending a good signal as you move the float up and down.
