My CEL went on last night and I pulled codes P0456 which is the evaporation control system and it detected a small leak.
But, the thing is that I have a 2011 sv rogue and it didn't tell me my gas cap was loose in the cluster screen?
So, it might not be a gas cap, I got the code erased, should I take it in anyways?

Also, I'm very certain that I tighten the gas cap like usual. I turn it 3 times after the click.

just retighten the cap and see what happens. nothing will break off, or be damaged. my girls brand new at the time g37 had the same issue. checked her cap, seemed fine. opened it - reclosed it, and never happened again.

Make sure to not "super" overfill your gas tank, some people love topping in an extra gallon of gasoline because it's more convenient. By doing that it's reducing space for expansion in the tank and soaks your evap canister. They're not cheap to replace. The evap canister is hooked up to the gas tank to absorb gas fumes so they don't get fully released into the atmosphere. :wavey:

I agree, Dave1320. I had this happen to my second Rogue (I'm on #3 now). The Evap container, if full, will allow fumes to come back up through the gas tank where you put the nozzle in. If the gas pump keeps shutting off (like it does when it's full), this is likely a sign that the Evap container is full due to overfilling the tank. Wait until the pump clicks off and you're full enough.

Hi I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue sl fwd with 60k miles. For the past month I've had a check engine light on for a evap leak. I took it into a shop and was told it needed a fuel treatment and that would take care of the problem. A week later the cel came back on for the same thing and it's also been alerting me about my fuel cap being loose. So I bought a new oem gas cap and reset the cel. A few days later the cel came back on as well as the loose fuel cap message. I was going to take it back into the shop today but noticed all the sudden the cel went away and I have no loose fuel cap message. Should I just ignore this if no more alerts come back?? Has anybody experienced anything like this?? Since I've had this issue even with the cel and loose fuel cap alerts going off the car seems to be running fine.

This has been a problem since the first gen, and the solutions are the same. Give it a few days, if it doesn't return you're good to go.
After you've read the previous posts above, read the following two threads:

This probably sounds ridiculous but wondering if anyone else had had this issue. I am almost positive I didn't "click" the gas cap on my 2014 Nissan Rogue which is why the MIL/check engine light came on. I have driven it about 6 miles (in two different trips). It is still on. How long should it take for it to go off if this is the issue?

You MUST click the cap at least once, hitting the rachet tells you you have enough torque on cap to seal it properly. Not being tight enough can easily pop a light. Maybe it will and maybe it won't. Sometimes they can take a day or two to cycle back off, probably needs to go back through a cold sit and then OBD drive cycle again. Evap resets often take longer than others because the parameters the ECMs look for to test the system are pretty tightly controlled.
