out of utter laziness (and cuz I wanted to finish the whole project in a couple hours so I could enjoy the new speakers before nightfall), I did just use the oem wiring harnesses. What I didn't show in those pics is that I mounted my aftermarket crossovers inside the enclosures also, and ran my amp's outputs to the wires leading to the original bose amps from behind the factory deck. The crossovers' woofer outputs then go to the drivers in the same enclosure, and then their tweeter outputs go back out and up the pillar, all using the oem wiring. It worked fine, but I'm about to gut that setup and relocate the crossovers to behind the center console, and run new, thicker gauge speaker wire all around. Sound quality was very good imo.. it does help as I mentioned to splurge a little and get some good speakers... in my case, I bit the bullet and got some focal drivers, and boston acoustics xovers. I can not stress enough how awesome the Focals sound... they were so good I just recently had to get a pair of focal 6x9s for the rears for the car's upcoming audio makeover. If you do end up keeping the bose enclosures as I did, I think it will only help with the sound quality, as most people usually just stuff a speaker into their door panel and let the rear sorta hang out free-air style with no real separation between the front and rear, and that's definitely not the most ideal setup...
Oh, one thing to consider is speaker mounting depth.. I forgot how deep the box is, but you'll ideally want to get a driver that will fit inside there. I was lucky that I had room to sorta wedge the xover to one corner, and then still fit the woofer in there... but I know a lot of newer, $$$ speakers have huge, deep magnet structures that prob won't fit into the bose enclosure too well...
