hi, so im looking to purchase a G37 in St louis and for some reason, only G37x's get shipped to St. Louis. Every fricking G37 is an x. Now st louis winters are mild for the msot part but is there any reason to get the x vs a rwd g37? I cant see any reason I should have to pay ~$1200 more for poorer fuel economy and a heavily rear-biased AWD system.

-thanks

oh, and what are the prices like? Im seeing $32,xxx for a G37 and $33,xxx for a G37x.

Welcome to Nico!
The X out performed the non-X in wet and dry slalom tests by one of the leading auto magazines. Which in my mind translates to a safer vehicle in adverse conditions.
Plus a little safer & funner if you push it. :naughty:
We get less snow here and I went with an X.
If gas mileage is a major concern, which I'm assuming it is since you mentioned it, you might want to look at the G25. It was not so for me.
I wanted a sports oriented AWD sedan. And, we love her!! :yesnod
Good Luck!!!

When I bought my G37, the only all-wheel-drive model was a sedan with an automatic transmission. I wanted a coupe with a manual, so I had to take rear wheel drive. One of the things I have learned about my car is that the tail comes out very easily when you try to accelerate hard out of a corner. This is OK if you are into drifting, but it doesn't work well on the road or, for that matter, on a race track. Therefore, I always leave the VDC turned on. All-wheel-drive may let you use more power coming out of corners because the front wheels are working, too. I have also noticed that all-wheel-drive hooks up better on all road surfaces than does either rear- or front-wheel-drive.

As far as gas mileage is concerned, I question how big a difference it really makes. Consider how far you drive every month, calculate how many more gallons the G37X will burn compared to the G37, and multiply by the price of premium. I'll bet you spend more on cable TV, internet access or your cell phone.

Gasmilage isn't much of a different if you drive it the same way. Also agree with both with Kendahl and Rich. With the X no matter what the road and weather condition you can go without thinking.

Also the X can be turn into RWD. All you have to do is install a switch and turn on or off anytime. But out of all the AWD I think Infiniti nailed it well it is the closest to the RWD. It even gives you a little tail happy moment without the worry.

But no matter what you buy can't go wrong.

It's all relative....

Compared to a NON-X, no. You might loose 1 or 2 MPG
Compared to an Altima Hybrid, yes......but, you are giving up performance.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/

The 1 or 2 that I give up is well worth it to me!!!
Especially when I'm driving in the snow. :naughty:
LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!! :woot:

zozo needs to post up his youtube vids of how to drive in the snow with your foot thru the fire wall!!! :chuckle:

Nope that is the only drawback. I spent my whole life rowing gears. Till like 7-8 years ago. Than I switched to AT. Be honest I really don't mind it. New AT's are really good. Get better mpg some cases and I know I know not the same but you can use paddle shifter or manual on the AT. Also no trouble with clutch replacement.

If the MT is a must than the X is out.

okay a couple things,is it the sedan or coupe that interest you?

I got the 2010 xs sedan which I love coming from a 2008 g37s coupe.

but the 2011 coupe xs has all the features I wish the 2010 xs sedan had
meaning the sports brakes found on the s rear wheel models, limited slip
and 19" AS tires as wheel as nicer rims.

btw I am getting better gas mileage with the 2010 x than I got with the 2008s rwd coupe.
both AT but the 7 speed AT makes a difference.

whatever you choose you cannot lose both great cars rwd or awd.

looking at the sedan, probably a G37x Journey, maybe with the premium.

so the G37 AWD isnt real-time, i dont need to worry about un-even tire wear destroying the AWD system and other "quirks" that some with AWD systems similar to subaru's?

Yeap it is a smart awd. It kicks in when needed. Let me try to see if I backed up some of my videos on my external harddrive and can load it up for you. The awd system is pretty bulletproof. I don't rememberto hear from anybody issue with it.

Ok found few old ones and uploaded 2. Not the best but here it is.

This the VDC was turned off and as soon as I turned on it starts grabbing.

This was before I went to the tireshop to replace my worn all season tires and VDC off.

It is cold here but not much snow on the ground. Maybe 4-5 inches left. Roads are clean for days. No fun here.

Calling for few inches thru next week. Will see. I want to go ski next week for couple of days. This is going to be another bad season. :frown:

BTW, I tested out the DWS's on my 04 Coupe and they were OK....Much better than the Yoko S-Drives, but not great. Would be fine to tool around town in, but wouldn't want to have to drive into CLT with them.
Spent most of my snowy driving in the X!! :dblthumb:
streets are drying up now...

I had a 6MT coupe and will not get a manual Infiniti ever again. If you replace the OEM flywheel with an aftermarket, you run the risk of making your car sound like a cement truck. The 6MT also had a crappy engagement postion...almost the last inch of travel. No thanks.

Yeap I hear ya on that one Joe. You would think they have been making M/T forever they should be a master of this. But somehow Nissan never quite got it with the Z or the G.

Honda and Mazda knows how to make good ones.

Can't go wrong with AWD especially if you deal with snow. If you're worries about mpg's then this not the car for you.

I got my G37X sedan in Chicago this past March. We just moved back to Calif. And while at the dealer I noted that they did not carry any X cars, Sales man said you would need to order it as an X. But when I got my G37X in Chicago that’s all they had. Glad I have the X. it drives great and during the week long rain we had a few weeks ago I could see the difference in traction. heavy Rain and at each light I could launch the car as if there was no rain. it handles so awesome in this type of condition! Loving it!

the G37x is the best of both worlds, feels like RWD but has AWD traction. We just had a snow storm in GA and i took my G37x out for a spin and it felt so planted even in the snow/slush we got in GA. If you turn off the VDC you can really have some fun in an empty parking lot, that you couldnt do with a FWD/RWD car. I was able to do the posted speed limit with no problems, while passing by nervous SUVs and trucks lol. If the 1-2 MPG loss in milage is your concern a G is not the car for you, not to sound snobbish... :yesnod

I took the wife's G37s out to a parking lot with 3-4" of fresh snow and played around for a while. It did quite well with the DWS's. Still, the next replacement vehicle I get for the wife will probably be AWD.

yes, the DWS's did better than the S-Drives on my coupe, but still had to be VERY CAREFUL not to get the tires spinning. Took it out after alot had melted and went over a large piece of snow/ice. I kept slight pressure on the gas and the rear started to come around....HUGE difference getting behind the wheel of the X. Highly recommend! :yesnod

Yeah, you do have to be careful with any tire on just-RWD. You also have to be aware that traction control will bring you to a complete stop when you don't want to. Helpful at times, annoying at others.

Weird, I don't remember as many traction issues with the '76 Cutlass I learned to drive with in the snow.

Yes, I think I got around better in the snow in my 69 Mach 1 back in the early 80's.....probably difference is in the tires.

Wonder if generally this is true based on design as far as being better in snow...
