I wouldn't say the BMW's don't have those types of issues. We have 2 BMW products in the garage and they have their own little nits to pick on as well.
Example.
My '04 M3....
- german controls not exactly intuitive, a bit cryptic at times actually- tire wear is insane and at $1200-1800 per set, ends up being quite an investment, no surprise though given the weight of the car, hp and camber of the wheels- brake dust on OEM pads is remarkable in its quantity and degree of coverage, to be expected though given the sporting nature of the M and the brand in general, plus can change out the pads to better ones that shed less dust too.- SMG transmission is a bit non-user friendly, especially in auto when you are on the phone, etc- seat belts wear and fray, start to look really ratty after a while- rattle in the rear deck/trunk area that is troublesome to locate and even more so to fix- forget getting the oil changed anywhere but at the dealership or at home, but with disposal being a problem, why bother with the DIY?- fog lights are pretty useless with OEM bulbs installed- display almost disappears when wearing polarized sunglasses- iPod interface S-U-C-K-S almost as bad as the current G35's does- i like having the window switches on the center console but having the lock switch there is a pain in the butt
All in all though, this car was and still is a total joy to drive, but it has its' warts too, as all cars end up having. Otherwise you wouldn't see car companies bringing out revisions, mid-year refreshes and updated models, nobody gets it perfect the first time, or the second and third times for that matter. Never mind the balancing of cost verses market placement, engineering limitations and corporate vision (or lack thereof).
Just my 2 cents.
