First off, I really like my 07 G35X, but I do have some things for my wish list, categorized below:

A. Infiniti Must fix:1. abrupt throttle tip-in. Makes me look like noob driving a stick (when it's actually an automatic, and a driver w/22 years experience at the wheel) leaving from a light2. more seat adjustment - front tilts <1 ", no tilt in the rear of the seat cushion (my Altima had this). Tied with this is having the gauges visible at the top, no matter how I adjust my seat, the top 1/4 of the gauges is cut off - I'm an average height guy.3. ties in with 2 above - I have to JAM my hand between the seat and the door to get to the seat adjustments - why not just scoop out the bottom part of the armrest at the rear to allow easier access?

B. Hey, would be nice:1. 6-speed auto (or 7) - 5 speed doesn't cut it these days2. much faster reacting manual shifts - I have to hit the shift at 6000 RPM in 1st gear under full throttle for it to shift before hitting the redline.3. better/faster downshifts in D or DS. Floor the throttle in 2nd at about 4,000 RPM (don't remember the exact RPM's) and... nothing. Dropping to 1st would put it somewhat close to redline, but still some RPM's left to get you going, then a quick upshift to 2nd.3.Cupholders are pretty shallow4.512 song limit on CF card5.Nav system without startup 'legal' nag and ability for the passenger to use it while the car's in motion 6. a VDC system that allowed a little more slip and slide before kicking into granny mode. Particularly the TCS part in an AWD vehicle, the tiniest bit of wheel spin and granny kicks in (not just to slightly brake the wheel that's lost traction, but damn near cut off the fuel supply to the engine)- with AWD I can get a little spin without a problem - I've got the other 3 tires to get traction with.

C. If I could build it myself, here's what I would do/add:1. about 50 more horsepower2. a really good DSG (auto-clutch manual) type transmission

That shifting at 6k rpm is weird. I have no problem to do it. It shifts in less than 500rpm.

2007 G35Coupe on my end.

Dislikes:

-No iPod/aux jack (low end Chevys have them FFS)

-Everyone wants to race me. That includes grandma in a Sebring convertible (seriously), and Joe Sidewayshat in his $hitbox Sunfire with fatass exhaust note.

That's about it! I really love this car.

.....yeah the transmission is a bit slow and the throttle touchy, but my current daily driver, an '04 M3 is in a whole different world in that regard. So much so that the G feels less jumpy but also snail slow in the shift department. Not that I'm in love with my SMG transmission in the M either. When I pull the trigger on the '08/'09 I don't get a choice, but I am looking forward to a good old 6 speed manual instead of an automated one.

I bought the last '04 on the lot at the local stealer, so I didn't have a choice on the SMG either, but it definitely wasn't and still isn't my preference.

'06 automatic coupe

dislikes:

seat bottom side bolsters are too snug!bose system has muddy baseseat belt (when worn) rubs on my neck and can't be adjusted!!!!lack of headroom (car equipped with sunroof)highway mpg should be better (taller overdrive and/or rear axle ratio)road noise can be annoying on non-smooth surfaces

other than that, i love the car!!!

Anyone get a fairly loud pop when entering angled driveways?

Whenever the chassis is stressed on my 06 Coupe, I get a fairly loud pop. I think it's coming from the rear. Perhaps a missing or failed chassis weld?

you could be reaching the end of your suspension travel and the strut/shock is making a "noise" when that happens. does it happen no matter which direction you enter the driveway?? just some things to think about...

You could be right since it only happens on driveways. If it really was a chassis problem I would probably notice it once in a while on hard corners.

I didn't mention it at my last service becuause I figured they would just shrug their shoulders but I will pass that info along next time.

I'll have to think about the direction - it happens almost every time on my home driveway.

Thanks

1. Seats could be a little more sport !2. Thigh extension on the seats!3. Side controls on the seats!4. Leather stitching is too rough in some places, sometimes i can feel it through my clothes.5. The leather seats are too soft/cushiony. I'd prefer little stiffer

So far everything I said indicates that the seats sucks.... which they do. I know the coupe seats are a little better but you don't get adjustable seat belts !

Paint chips too easily.

The Bridgestone tires i got are the worst garbage. They start squealing before the car even starts to roll. Horrible traction... although they are pretty quiet.

Interior creaks, especially when it's hot/sunny outside and the plastic starts to expand/contract.

Cheap central console plastic. I know they fixed that on the '05.

Steering wheel is TOO damn tight. It's hard to turn the wheel when you sit far back. Very annoying.

This is why people pay big bucks for BMW because they don't have these issues... even though they are slow (until the 335!).

Overall it's a very good car. Still the best value for the money.

I wouldn't say the BMW's don't have those types of issues. We have 2 BMW products in the garage and they have their own little nits to pick on as well.

Example.

My '04 M3....

- german controls not exactly intuitive, a bit cryptic at times actually- tire wear is insane and at $1200-1800 per set, ends up being quite an investment, no surprise though given the weight of the car, hp and camber of the wheels- brake dust on OEM pads is remarkable in its quantity and degree of coverage, to be expected though given the sporting nature of the M and the brand in general, plus can change out the pads to better ones that shed less dust too.- SMG transmission is a bit non-user friendly, especially in auto when you are on the phone, etc- seat belts wear and fray, start to look really ratty after a while- rattle in the rear deck/trunk area that is troublesome to locate and even more so to fix- forget getting the oil changed anywhere but at the dealership or at home, but with disposal being a problem, why bother with the DIY?- fog lights are pretty useless with OEM bulbs installed- display almost disappears when wearing polarized sunglasses- iPod interface S-U-C-K-S almost as bad as the current G35's does- i like having the window switches on the center console but having the lock switch there is a pain in the butt

All in all though, this car was and still is a total joy to drive, but it has its' warts too, as all cars end up having. Otherwise you wouldn't see car companies bringing out revisions, mid-year refreshes and updated models, nobody gets it perfect the first time, or the second and third times for that matter. Never mind the balancing of cost verses market placement, engineering limitations and corporate vision (or lack thereof).

Just my 2 cents.

Paint sucks

Seats suck, bolsters don't hold you and the leather is thin and wears easy.

The headunit CD player breaks

to east to scratch console paint

Seats suck! mine actually broke (the metal base)

I wish it had 100 more HP

sqeeks and creeks as much as my 18yo 240sx

Well for me, the controls make my right leg sore. I'm glad they changed the placement in the 07 sedan, 08 coupe!

I agree that the controls, while in a technically "cool" place, could be put to better use elsewhere!

I've gotta say that I haven't driven a < 07 G35, but I think the positioning of the seat controls on my 07 G35X isn't that great - there's not much room between the armrest and the seat to cram your hand in there. I hear a lot about how much better the seat control placement is on the 07 compared to the previous models, but I can't really wholly agree.

I really like the Mercedes seat controls - mounted on the door with buttons that are 'icons' of the seat - very easy to use, and seem mounted in a good place.

They're mounted on the door? That's interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I like where they sit on my coupe, but they should have been shifted over to the right a bit more to allow a little more breathing room for your thigh.
