hello everyone, i'm brand new to this forum, and referred to by a friend of mine. Great place and community here. Well currently i am in the car market trying to purchase a G35. I just totaled my previous car in a accident with a 18wheeler truck, so i'm in desperate needs of a car to work and school and what not. As of right now i can somewhat afford the altima coupe 3.5se 6spd, and since its not in the luxury category as the G35, other payments will be lower; however, I REALLY WANTED A G35. And since it'll be my actual first purchase for a car, i want it brand new, so i gave up on looking for good condition used G35's. I know its kinda like WTF, but its just me. So opinions and help and maybe advice would be greatly appreciated. I cant make up my mind, 3.5se altima coupe the poorman ( turns me off ) or pay more for a G35, which will put me in a financial slump lol. comparisons of the two would be great too. thank you.

Welcome aboard my friend

It really depends on what you could afford.. of course me having a G35 will tell you to get one because I love mine for the luxury and the sporty feel it gives me.

The altima coupe looks great IMO... With your budget right now, which one would best suit you?

Sounds like he "really wanted a G35" ...new would be pretty pricey though in comparision to the Altima.

Here's my 2 cents...I like having new too. No one else's first anything, I feel ya there. However truth be told I could barely afford the payments on mine used @ 32K out the door financed is like 41K when it's all over or something in that neigborhood. However I probably could have bought a brand new altima, grand am/ grand pre, eclipse, or any number of other choices. I wanted G35 though and in my mind when it's a choice of having a new car that isn't really what I want and still expensive vs. having a used car that's exactly what I want, I think when I'm going to shell out that much money I might as well get what I want even if it's slightly more or used or both.

So my advice is get what you want even if it means buying a beater right now until you can get what you want later, I say beater cause if you get a new car that you don't really want you'll be stuck with a much newer something you don't want for alot longer and lose more money on it.

I would see what the best deal is on a new G35.Then, I would check the deals on one with 25K or less miles.See what the difference would be in payments.I would rather have a slightly used G35 than an Altima. Nothing against the Altima, they are just two very different cars.Reason I would check used is cause you don't want to get in over your head.Good Luck!

I agree 150% Don't buy a brand new car that you don't really want. That is a SERIOUS waste of hard earned $$$. Or seriously shop for an 05+ G35... there are decent deals out there and some are in excellent shape and practically brand new. The 07 should have great deals going on because the G37's came in.

I completely agree. Don't buy a car you really don't want. I've done that before and it ended up costing me more because once I could afford the car I really wanted, I ended up loosing a ton trying to get rid of the car that I really didn't want.

There's nothing wrong with purchasing a used car. Almost every one of my cars has been used. Have it inspected before you purchase.

thanks for the responses everyone, greatly appreciated. It's not that i dont like the altima coupe, I LOVE BOTH CARS, just rather have a G? i guess its all about where i am financially. I've checked around for deals on the G, a brand new one, and the only one they have at the dealership is for 37k fully loaded 07. and near by ones they can transfer are in the low 30k to mid 30k. I think due to my financial situation i'll end up with the altima coupe, which isnt bad, just rather the G...i guess i can still live..

By what you just said you're going to regret it later on when you can afford it. If you're considering the 2 of them you can't be that far off from affording the G35. I'm not trying to push it on you because it's a G35 and I own one or anything, it's just I see you how should I say "settling" for the Altima. I know you said you love both cars but right after you said "just rather have a G". Yes you can still live if you get the Altima but is that how you really want to feel. All I'm saying is if you want one more than the other then get the one you want more unless you know you'll never be able to afford it even if you save up for a little bit to make a larger down payment and get the payments lower.

Again I'm not trying to push you a way you don't already want to go, I'm merely trying to make sure you get what you really want cause it's alot of money to 3 months later maybe have a light bulb go off and think crap I should've waited another 3 months and I would've been able to get this awesome G except now I'm in the hole. Hindsights always 20/20 as they say. Just make sure it's what you really want and not what you're settling for cause it's human nature to still want what we didn't get which leads to regret.

Make sure you check the true street prices of both options. The Altima Coupes often go for sticker or sticker plus mark up.

Good luck with the Altima. Haven't driven one yet, but they look nice in and out. My mother in law has the 4 door version and loves it.

don't buy a new altima coupe, it is a waste of money and depreciation...

you can get a g35 2004-2005 coupe for cheaper with around 30k miles.

I agree with picking a slightly used G, but I think he's looking for that new car smell.

thanks everyone for their inputs. Yea i am looking for the new car smell, and well for a used 04-05 g35 with 30k miles is still nice, and i know its stupid for me not to get one, i just dont like the fact that theirs already miles on it. i know i can trust used cars, and get everything checked out, i just want one with 2 miles . i actually went today to the nissan dealership by my house and test drove the altima coupe, and G35 sedan 06 with 19,000 miles. I was really interested in it, but the sticker price was 29k, and with taxes and license fees and etc, it came out to be too much for me, the a/c i test drove today was the basic 3.5se for 26k, and with everything came out to be 29k with the costco auto membership discount, plus they offered 5 years of oil changes for free and extended warranty. still dreamin of G's however -_-

If you're interested in a G35 Sedan, keep looking around.I bought my wife's 05 Sedan NEW for $27++ in Jan. 06, so $29K I LOVE the G35C, but my a$$ loves the sedan seats better. (seeing if I can get all of the new santa's in today )

Yea I definitely agree.. The Infinity's have a better resale value IMO... when I bought my Altima I lost a lot of money like a fool when I traded it in..not worth the hassle

Sounds like he's "been there - done that", so something to consider.

Get what you really want,'cause its no fun stoking a check every month for your second choice.I work at a dealership, and I see tons of people trying to trade in six month old cars they didnt really want, they were just trying to save a little on the payment.

I'd get one with 5-10k miles...new enough for that "new car smell" but old enough for the original owner to get hit with the initial depreation

i thank you all for your responses, but now i'm not even getting a 3.5se altima coupe or a g35 used or new. turns out i got less out of my totaled wreck, i'll either have to get like a civic or a altima coupe 2.5s, and i'll be fine with any, i just need me 4 wheels to get me from one place to the next. And with the whole G thing its all about what i want, not what i need. If i thought i wouldve gotten a 3.5se altima coupe i probably would've opted for the used G with like 10-20k miles on it, but seeing as how my insurance only gave me so little, i'm out of options for good now. I HATE ACCIDENTS...

Sucks. Something I learned from a friend of mine. You can actually have your insurance company buy a like vehicle as the one you lost, ie: color options etc. in lieu of the check. Might be something to check out if they aren't offering you that much.
