This may be old news, or already brought up, but I didn't see it mentioned. We were on vacation in Hawaii last week and in Waikiki I saw a new G35 being used as a cop car. I thought it was pretty neat, and I wondered what you had to do to be given that ride instead of a normal cop car.... Anyway, this wouldn't be complete without pics - so here they are.

By looking at the license plate, it doesn't look like its a municipal-licensed car. So it could be a detective's/investigator's personal car or something.

Reminds me of the movies with car chases in Europe with BMWs as cop cars.

Who me? I think its pretty sweet. If we had G35 cop cars of any kind around here I know I'd get pulled over so many times because I can spot the cop cars pretty easily here. Although thinking about it, if I was a cop in a G35 cop car, I wouldn't pull over another G35...

I can't remember all the particulars, however I just came from Hawaii back in '05. I lived there for 3 years and I can tell you that it was very common to see this type of thing. They are definitely not municipal-licensed cars, they are personally owned cars. If I remember correctly, they get a certain amount of money extra per month for the mileage put on there cars and they often mod them a lot but keep the sleeper look. I used to see a Camaro patrolling around where I lived on a regular basis and you could ALWAYS here his turbos as he passed by. In 3 years, I RARELY ever saw any municipal HPD cars, they were almost always HPD on the Harley's or in personal vehicles. Something to do with funding or something, I can't really remember. HPD is Honolulu Police Department. The whole Island of Oahu falls under the county of Honolulu, even though the city of Honolulu is only on the south side of the island. This picture by the way, makes me miss Hawaii so much! God I loved it there, and I know exactly where this pick is too, I used to be down here almost every weekend!

Couldn't it also be a siezed asset? I know under the RICO statutes, law enforcement agencies can sieze ill-obtained assets and use them for enforcement duties.

I'm sure that is more than a possibility in anywhere, but I do know for a fact that what I said was true about Hawaii. More cops drove around in personal vehicles than anything, they did not have too many actual cruisers there at all.

I don't think the tint is as dark as it looks in this pic, I think its just the lighting. Look at the 2nd pic thru the driver's window and you can see through both the back window and back-left passenger's window...gives you a pretty good idea of how dark it is

Personally I think that it is a meter maid's car because of the little blue light on the top. Unless I am mistaken the lights that cops put in there cars are usually red, not blue. In regards to the Charger and Mustang cop cars, we have a couple undercover Charger's that are used as cop cars. One in particular was black with a short antenna, it had a female state trooper driving it in traffic. Another one we saw was painted blue and gray to match the state troopers colors.
