Is this considering the under the hood engine temp in real world traffic?? To me..cold air is more important. Dont want to argue with you or the dyno but 100 degree air outside of the hood would be WAY better and more dense than the 200-300 degree sitting in traffic under the hood temp? And sitting on the shaded dyno with a big fan blowing on it will add more hp? We have had this argument on my Jeepsunlimited forum before too. if the short tube gains are 1-2-or 3 hp more, I would prefer the cold air box and better air temp which gives a crispier throttle response and better running engine over the 1-3 hp gains. A better intake sitting in 200-300 degree temperature has never made sense to me. Not arguing just looking at it in a different way Mike. Jet

What's easier to sip from, a large diameter short straw or a long skinny straw? The VQ35 seems to like the short-ram style intakes...

I would agree whole-heartedly except for one thing, the 10hp dip in the middle of the rev-range (which was there consistently pull after pull). Like you said, temps werent much of a factor on the dyno with the hood up and fans blowing, so it had to be resonance to have a CONSISTENT dip like that. I wasnt "downing" the cold-air camp, my main point was that the intake resonance tuning on the VQ35DE (not so much the HR's) plays a large enough role to warrant concern.

NO cold-air extension can make up for a 10hp loss at mid-range. I'm all for CAI's, just not on the early VQ's.

I have an Injen CAI, I'm pretty happy with it. It sounds good and the power band feels smother. I want to get a spacer or new plenum with a custom tune.

So what is the easiest and best cold air intake to get put on?

They are all similar. Look into the R2C and the Stillen. The airbox is important to help seal out the hot engine air.

Got one on my 09 G37 ;) Love it!!! The quality was much better than the PoPcharger/Ztube that I had on my 05 coupe

im new to the thread and recently bought a 05 g35. it has the z tube and pop charger on it already. just want to get this straight, will i be better off getting the short ram intake, or the r2c, or is my current setup just as good?

I have a 2004 G35 coupe with a few mods, to mention the ones that pertain to what we are talking about is the Injen CAI, Kinetix Intake Manifold, Megan Racing long tube headers (no cats), and ARK Grip true duals. Since my mods I have noticed a very annoying fluttering sound coming from the car. I got the car smoked to see if I had an exhaust leak and nothing. The fluttering sound only comes when I decelerate. I wonder if this has anything to do with the CAI. I noticed a few of you talk about resonance…I wonder if I should take that bottom tube off and convert to a short ram? Maybe the noise has always been there but I’m just now noticing it because the headers with x-pipe and exhaust are amplifying the sound? Any input would be great anyone else ever come across this issue? Thanks in advance.

I made mine myself and have had no problems, and saw a huge power/ sound increase across the rpm spectrum! Make sure u use 3 inch piping and get the filter away from the heat, and you can't go wrong.

What I did so far for my 06 Coupe was taking out the air box and dropping in a K&N cone. Might not be the best thing but i did notice more kick when i accelerated. Its also really loud. For $80 I am happy. Soon to get the plenum spacer!
