Dont want to argue with you or the dyno but 100 degree air outside of the hood would be WAY better and more dense than the 200-300 degree sitting in traffic under the hood temp? And sitting on the shaded dyno with a big fan blowing on it will add more hp? We have had this argument on my Jeepsunlimited forum before too. if the short tube gains are 1-2-or 3 hp more, I would prefer the cold air box and better air temp which gives a crispier throttle response and better running engine over the 1-3 hp gains. A better intake sitting in 200-300 degree temperature has never made sense to me. Not arguing just looking at it in a different way Mike. Jet
I would agree whole-heartedly except for one thing, the 10hp dip in the middle of the rev-range (which was there consistently pull after pull). Like you said, temps werent much of a factor on the dyno with the hood up and fans blowing, so it had to be resonance to have a CONSISTENT dip like that. I wasnt "downing" the cold-air camp, my main point was that the intake resonance tuning on the VQ35DE (not so much the HR's) plays a large enough role to warrant concern.
NO cold-air extension can make up for a 10hp loss at mid-range. I'm all for CAI's, just not on the early VQ's.
