Another route is small claims court. It's cheap to file and you don't need a lawyer. Just take the repair estimates, some photos of the damage and, maybe, a sketch to show how the incident ocurred. Under the circumstances, you are sure to win.

If the other guy still refuses to pay up, you can report the unsatisfied judgment to the credit bureaus. This will screw his credit rating and affect everything from his credit card interest rate now to car and home loans in the future.

Burton, some day when I have enough cash flow I will get the Kuruma front end, you better believe it. One day you all will see pictures here on NICO with it, I promise. And by that time, this thread will be in archive.

Anywho, another update. The G is at the body shop as of 8 am this morning. Should be out by tomorrow afternoon. Everything's taken care of.

You guys are all paranoid. You need to find out how your insurance company treats claims before you start throwing all sorts of ideas into the pool.

Allstate claims it won't raise your rates because you were in an accident. There is probably fine print to go along with that.

Progressive didn't raise our rates when we claimed on my wife's Celica. The final bill came out to $2700 (about 3 times what it should have cost- Minor paint, two rims, a tire and an underbody tray...oh and they decided to replace the mirror even though it just had scratched paint).

Our rates went up because we added my G, then went down when my wife called them. Then went down again when we moved. Then went down again when one of the points fell off my record. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying that it will go down again with my wife's point falling off in September.

Yeah, that's why you call your agent to discuss your options. That's what they're there for. In MI with no-fault, each party contacts their own insurer and then one company reimburses the other. The exception is with property damage, which includes properly parked cars, no matter if it occurs on private or public property. If its property damage, you have to make the claim on the party at fault. If they decide to be non-cooperative and irresponsible in handling the situation, then, as in my case, you can claim on your own insurance and the company goes after them for you. Since I know the guy and am friends with his family (well sort of now), I gave them the opportunity but my patience started running out and I was one phone call away from taking my own action, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Somewhere along the line the full story wasn't being told because every time they talked to me about it, I got an answer as if it were a crash, which was not the case. From the get go, I said my insurance had nothing to do with it and I even told them it was a parked car, which makes them fully liable for all damages which are covered under their Property Protection Insurance that covers up to $1 million and every policy in MI has it. They kept saying blah blah blah, there's a deductible, we'll pay that for you and your insurance will take care of the rest. From a lawyer's standpoint, you aren't supposed to talk about the accident with the other party, you're just supposed to gather the required info and go to your agent. Well, I finally said ok for the sake of no longer talking about it and arguing and I called up my agent, asked him what I should do and I did it. If they were responsible, they would have done the same and it would have been taken care of a month and a half ago. I got my 2 estimates, told them what they needed to do (one was talk to their agent to see what they needed to do), and they didn't do what they were supposed to do. They came back again a month after I gave them the estimate, after finally talking with their agent with me pushing them, saying the same thing they said when it happened, pay the deductible and my insurance covers the rest. Well I had guests over and I wasn't going to argue about it at that moment, so I said ok. Next morning, I printed out something from the State of MI about insurance, highlighted the PPI area and highlighted the area they kept talking about, gave it to them and said, "Look, this is how it works. If you have questions, call me today or my agent will be calling your insurance company tomorrow to take action." They called me within a couple of hours and said, "When do you want to take care of it?" We agreed on the date, parts were ordered a couple days later than that date, another set back. About a week went by, I called the shop to get an update on the parts, they said no one ordered parts. I told them and went back to the shop 2 days later to see if they ordered parts. They did. So now after all of that, they're paying cash for it.

I have a feeling that there is something wrong with their insurance...like maybe it lapsed.

Ah, maybe. Never really thought of that because I guess I just assume that people don't allow that to happen unless they are financially unable to. But because of the irresponsibility shown thus far, that could make sense. Either way, its being taken care of and the issue is over on how its paid for.

Looks good under 1st inspection. Could someone check theirs to see how easy it is to push the bumper in near the side markers for me, please? It seems easier than before and seems like there are clips missing on both sides...? Or maybe I'm just noticing and/or don't remember. Pics to follow, although I don't have a before/after sequence, forgot the before.

The bumper is pretty damned flexible. So much so that I was able to get one into my coupe...INTO and have my wife still sit in the passenger seat.

Don't accept missing clips though!
