hey all, im new in this forum and i've been lookin at ur post and all, and most of the rides are awesome, verynice work.

so... i am from mexico city, right, i own a 2002 se-r spec v with a few mods, i had to get some o well.. mst of them in the us, and i plan on doing the same with the coupe coz unfortunately, the tuning culture is not so welcomed here so if u want like... a camshaft or big brake kit, u have a difficult time finding one and when u do, it goes up to 5k the set, so... not very cool.

anywayz, here in mexico, Nissan brings the SE with the CVT transmission, which makes me wonder if its any good. thats whats keeping me from getting this car, i mean, its an automatic transmission... i already asked if they can order a stick version, but the answer is an absolut NO

so, im asking to all u XTRONIC CVT drivers if its any good or should i definitely look for other stick option, coz for the price of the 09 coupe, which is 26k according to the value of the us dollar right now, around 14 pesos for a dollar, i can get a mazda speed 3

yet, i definitely prefer the altima coupe, but this cvt tramission thing is like should i or should i not

so i appreciate ur replies and again congrats to u all on ur rides

Welcome and it depends on what you want to do with it. If you're looking to drop a turbo in it, I'd find another stick option. But that's just me. I love my CVT and it's nice and smooth but I always wished I held out for a stick instead.

I hate automatics. I really like sticks.

I have a CVT...and I wouldn't trade for anything.

Yeah, sometimes I wanna grip the stick and feel the clutch, but I'mso happy with the CVT I can't tell you how much.

You will only be dissapointed if you just gotta have a stick. If you don'tmind not shifting, you won't regret it. The CVT doesn't feel anything likea regular auto.

Some CVT owners, such as myself, chose it cause we are lazy to stick drive - personally am happy with it

Still, Test drive it - This is not a toaster you're buying and you get to read customer reviews

My CVT in my 3.5SE is primo. I have had a lot of shifters in my life and love the feel of the clutch and shift arm but the 3.5 A/C and CVT seems like a great marriage. Just my dos centavos. (pic of my new 3.5 Asure blue A/C coming soon)

You'll be very happy with the CVT. Things have changed. My car has the CVT and I'm getting the best of both worlds. Not a hater but don't get a Mazda 3... I've been in a few and test drove one a few years back. Nothing exciting about them... You might as well get a civic si if you're planning for a mazda.. but that's another topic entirely.

Try out the CVT, get the best of both worlds. I'm sure you won't regret it. Good times.

idk after having it in stick i feel like any car i have will be other than like a truck/suv or a luxury car..........its just so much more spotier. I know if i had cvt i would never have put money into it bc i just dont like that tiptronic crap......my moms volvo s80 t6 has it and i hate it.....even my friends r32 ide rather just put it in sport mode. Sport modes kool bc it revs higher than normal and you get the soun of a manual more

Welcome to the NICO forums. You will not be disappointed with the CVT. I have a turbo in my CVT and love the hell outta it. I have another stick toy car and I love them both equally.

I had my friend in the car once and gunned it down the hill. he looked at me and was like is your car ever going to shift, I just looked over and said no. He was so puzzled it was amazing

I have no complaints with the CVT, best transmission I have had in a car I have owned/driven. Then again I have only owned automatics so what do I know? I drive probably 60/40 city to highway driving, so the automatic make sense for me.

The only thing that worries me is the long term reliability. The CVT hasn't been out for a long time, so there isnt tons of data on the reliability of it.

This was a worry to me also...but...Nissan also has a 100k warrenty extension that will cover bumper to bumper for 7-8 years! To have no worries of extra cost for that long...well worth it...

I love the CVT. It is weird, but I don't notice it anymore. If you go by the noise, it sounds like your car is always almost at the shift point, just never gets there. Then you are at speed and it revs down. It is awesome

LOL, i know... i had an audi A4 S-line, an 05, the tiptronic and yeh dats funny when they look @ u and say " wheres the shift!!!"2 bad i got it robbed @ gunpoint on xmas eve

so, this is very interesting... i mean, all kinds of opinions but all point to the same direction, CVT stands out of the usual thughts of the auto transmission. very nice and inspiring.

so heres the deal... i need to use my company to get the lease or credit on these cars, u know, to get the most out of the taxes and stuff, so my first thought was nissan, since i have a contact there who can help speed things up, so i def would like from nissan the coupethen i went to the bmw to ask for the 130i M Sport, but for 5k i can get the 135i Coupe, then today i drove by Suburu, and asked for the STi

i mean, i like all those cars and do not exceed the limit, i mean, its my company and all, but im not going all the way for a KOENISEGG

and i know also if i get the coupe i can use the extra money to make it some mods, so really... after reading all the comments here, and this one NOT being like as luxurious as the bimmer or flashy as the STi, it might be the right choice

i have this week and prbably next to make up my mind and decide whats it gonna be.

in any case, if the coupe is the winner, i will totally need ur help on mods, coz as i said, getting aftermarket parts here in mexico is almost impossible, either due to existence or prices so...personally i think what it immediately needs coming straight out of the dealership, are... springs, HID on fog lights, tint on windows, exhaust

thnx again 4 all the comments

THe stick lovers don't like the CVT, those of us that like automatics don't mind... also, the manual mode, while not reproducing the exact feel of the manual transmission, does provide for spirited driving when you want it...

also, be sure to get the 3.5 A/C... getting a 2.5 will be moving sideways performance-wise coming from the spec-V SER sentra IMO... but as someone mentioned earlier, never buy a car without a test drive!

I love automatics, I love sticks.....but in reality the CVT is just awesome. My favorite part is going up hills - when i test drove the 4cyl. I was amazed by this. The 6 it's even better to fly up them :-)
