Ok fellas, I need some assistance. I have a 92 N/A that I just pulled the plenum on to replace the injectors. So it is the 2nd motor in the car & I'm pretty sure its out of a 90-92. anyway, there were both style injectors in the car. Driver side has old style injectors & old fuel rail & passenger side is new style injectors & rail. Really scratching my head as to why somebody would go through all the trouble to change injectors & half a** it & cheap out. So I'm on the hunt for a new set of fuel rails which do not seem to easily be located. I can find performance fuel rails but really don't want to dump a s*** ton of $ on this N/A as I do have plans for a swap in the up coming years. Any advise or suggestions on where to go or if its ok to step up to a better fuel rail with the stock 260cc injectors. See there is a co called Z32 innovations that has a set of rails on the AMS site for $200 ish. Stockers at cpz for $160. Please shoot me some info & or advise.

Wow somebody really messed up on that one, never seen an engine with mixed old/new style injectors before haha

Z1motorsports sells used fuel rails here, both new and old style ones:

http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_in ... ts_id=3252

You can also check the Classified section for anyone parting out a car, or the classifieds section on twinturbo.net or theres a few parts groups on Facebook.

The strange part is that you can't just drop in a new style fuel rail on an old-style engine without having the lower intake machined for it to fit. Most people when converting to new style injectors buy an adapter kit that just drops into your stock old-style fuel rail, no machining required. Now you have to figure out if they did something weird like only machined one side of the lower intake or what. Also, you can't just swap in a new style lower intake either because the ports where it meets the head are different IIRC. So, assuming you do have mismatched fuel rail sides, you can either:

1) Get another new-style fuel rail for the drivers side and have the other half of the lower intake machined to fit it and get 3 new style injectors and connectors

2) Get an old style fuel rail for the pass. side, and pick up another used lower old-style intake, but then you would need to buy a full adapter kit (~$100) to use new style injectors + 3 new style injectors

#1 is probably easier/cheaper

So I can't figure out how to put up pics on here. anyway, the newer fuel rail was just bolted in and was bottoming out on the intake manifold. I already have new injectors, so I am gonna buy the adaptor kit and a set of older style fuel rails. I do have a question about the aluminum injector caps in the kit though if any one knows. the top side is open I guess to give easy access to the bolts to remove them in the future but it leaves the top side of the injector open where the upper insulator goes. any one have a clue what the deal is with that? does it just get left unprotected? I've owned my NA Z for just over a month and am well on my way already to getting schooled on it. I know there is much more to learn but its only time, $ & labor right...lol

How to post pics: how-to-post-pictures-using-photobucket-t521110.html

As for the injector tops being left "unprotected", I don't think it matters. In the instructions for Z1's adapter kit it even shows them without anything covering the tops of the injectors:

http://www.z1motorsports.com/upload/Mic ... Manual.pdf

I'm guessing it's because of the revised design of the actual injectors. The tops of the new style injectors have plastic surrounding that little metal thing, whereas the old style kind are sticking out:

Either way, I've been running my adapter kit/new style injectors for about 8k miles now without any issues. Make sure to also get new injector O-rings when you get the injectors (both upper and lowers), and also lower plenum seals (seal the fuel rail to the lower intake). Use plenty of lube on all of the O-rings or you risk pinching them!
