The tank is completely filled, I drove 3 miles on it. I drained all the gas from that tank to begin with, filled it with 3 gallons, put the pump in and then immediately went to fill it all the way last night after getting the pump installed.

Did you replace all the trim and then listen for noise yet? Do that, and if still noisy, you could always order another pump and send the current one back as defective. Mine is silent, except for the 1st 20-30 seconds when it primes at full speed in cold weather, but that is with all trim in place.

I replaced the spare tire and the carpeting and whatnot in the trunk....and put in the small plastic compartment. The rear deck is still out in case I encounter my fuel smell again or the pump needs pulled. But with those few items in place, I could hear the pump prime but while I was driving, I had the radio off and couldnt really hear the pump at all. BUT when I went to the trunk to have a listen, while the car was idling, I did hear the pump. Not as loud as before I put the trim in, but I could hear the buzzing type of noise that it makes....

I ordered this from Amazon, so I am not sure how I could send it back as defective....I would definately want a new pump to come before I pulled the current one and whatever. Drivability wise, the car is driving fine. It has a lot more pep when I floor it, gets up to speed faster and whatnot. I dont think its "placebo" either...I am sure the dying pump and burnt FPCU had something to do with performance issues previous to replacing them.

my guess is that once you replace the rear deck, everything will be fine. I am sure if I stuck my head into the trunk and listened hard, I could probably hear my pump hum a little, but from the drivers seat it is silent-thats what matters!

Like I posted earlier, my second pump was a genuine Infiniti {grossly overpriced} branded pump bought from the Infiniti dealer, and it was audible from the drivers seat when it was brand new....and lasted 150K, when I installed this Bosch branded pump {exact same thing} so I certainly would not worry about it all that much! If you REALLY wanted a second pump to try, you could order another one from amazon, swap pumps and return one of them back to amazon as "defective" or "noisy" for a refund....they are pretty good about returning items....though personally I think it would be a waste of time if you are not really hearing it from the drivers seat except when it initially primes itself.

I will leave it as is and see how it goes. The noise doesnt bother me...it just worried me since theres all the talk about it being silent and whatnot. I dont want it to crap out and take out my FPCU.

My old pump on the otherhand....remember I said it was making some sort of noise like an air compressor hose when you remove the hose from the compressor itself? It started making some really awful strange noises the day before I swapped to the brand new pump. It was making some very very loud BRRRRRRR noises and my wife was shocked. I drove it a couple miles to the store and back home and parked it.

We will see how this new pump does and if it gets noisier or whatever.
