hi all just got my first pathfinder. a used 1999 ls with 172000 kms. Just my luck was all good at preinspection but when i drove it home i noticed its leaking gas. Appears to be coming from between filler neck and gas tank. My question is if there is a rubber fuel hose attaching filler neck to gas tank? Mine has one and thats where i believe its leaking from. Guess i just replace the hose or is that a patch job somebody did? Is that rubber line suppose to be there? Its the line below the vent tube or at least i believe thats the vent tube lol.

The filler tubes on these things rust and then leak, and that is exactly what has happened to yours.
There is/was an extended warranty on the tubes, up to the 2001 model year.
You may be lucky and the dealer will replace it for free. Check there first.
If the warranty has ended, then you'll just have to replace it.
I replaced mine on a 2002, and it wasn't that difficult (I had to buy it new from the dealer. No warranty).

thanks great diagram, see the piece coming from gas tank that connects to the filler tube in sec 172 any idea if thats supposed to be rubber? Mine has a rubber hose there just want to make sure it wasnt a patch job. Does look like original though cause it has the wire type clamps on it. If its a patch job then i will replace filler neck but if that hose is supposed to be there then i will only need to replace the rubber hose i think. Thanks for the help much appreciated.

The rubber hose connection between the filler tube and gas tank is original.
That's the way it's designed.
Same thing with the vent tubes.
They are all connected via hose clamps.
The filler tube is metal, with a plastic protective coating.
The plastic coating splits/deteriorates over time.
Water gets in behind the coating through the splits, and rusts out the tube. Then it leaks gas.
If you remove the rear wheel, and then the plastic shroud over the filler tube assembly, you'll see it all.
I suspect the rubber is OK, and that it's the tube that's rusted through.
I was able to re-use the clamps, even after 12 years.

thanks for confirming that there is a rubber hose thats originally there. I just didnt know if that was original or if someone used it as a patch job. I think my rubber hose is my problem but will post the results once i get time to take it apart and get a better look. Thanks for all the help from all that responded. I hope this helps more then just myself. What a great site especially for a newbe pathfinder owner whos just getting to know my pathfinder.
