For all of you that haven't had this done yet here is the info.

Recall ID # 07V435000

US: 1 800 647 7261Canada: 1 800 387 0122

You must have your VIN ready for them when you call. They will check your VIN to see if the recall has been done on your truck. If it hasn't, ask them where the nearest dealrship is that will do the recall.

For all you Winnipeg QX4 owners we have to take our QX4 to:

Birchwood Infiniti204-261-3490Tell them you have an open recall on your QX4 for the filler neck recall and set up an appointment

All Pathfinders must go to a Nissan dealer and all QX4 must go to a Infiniti Dealer.

That is the Nissan 800 number, if you've got a QX4 in the US you need to call 800.662.6200. I just called and it applies to my Q also. Thanks for the info!

Recall 07V435000: Fuel Filler Tube ReplacementNotes

MAKE/MODELS: MODEL/BUILD YEARS:

Infinity/QX4 1997-2001

Nissan/Pathfinder 1997-2001

MANUFACTURER: Nissan North America, Inc.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V435000 MFR'S REPORT DATE: September 12, 2007Component: Fuel System, Gasoline: Storage: Tank Assembly: Filler Pipe and Cap

POTENTIAL NUMBER OF UNITS AFFECTED: 372250

SUMMARY:On certain vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia , Wisconsin and The District of Columbia, during the coating process of the fuel filler tube assembly, an insufficient amount of coating may have been applied at the lower mounting bracket. This could result in an opening in the coating which can allow water to enter and make contact with the bare metal of the tube.

CONSEQUENCE:This may result in surface rust but not perforation of the tube. However, in those areas of the country which use heavy concentrations of road salt in the winter, if a mixture of snow/water and salt makes contact with the bare metal, corrosion may occur to a degree which results in perforation of the tube. In this case fuel leakage may occur when filling the tank. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.

REMEDY:Dealers will replace the fuel filler tube assembly with a new one with an improved coating process. The recall is expected to begin on or about November 26, 2007. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

NOTES:Customers may also contact The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

I have still yet to take care of this. Every time I call Devon Infiniti, they hang up on me after holding for 10 minutes. Never get a return on my emails either....

Had my Q done May 2008, this is the only recall for our vehicle I am told. You get a shiny little piece in your wheel well as a perk.

I would call the 800 number again and make sure your VIN is correct. It should be covered under the recall.

Mine just went on the 2002 QX4 - - - Infiniti Dealers said my VIN's not on the list - so called Infiniti Hotline and they said it's not on the list and told me it's my responsibility, after arguing that it's the same part thats on the other models - same leak location too - got nowhere --- so then called NTHSA and let them know about the problem. Looks like it's affecting more than just the 97-01 models... so hopefully they will consider adding some more VINs to the recall list.

Just had this occur with my 99 QX4. The VIN is covered, but evidently an inspection was done back in 2007 (right when the recall came out, but before customers were notified), while it was in the dealer for some other work. We were never notified that this was performed, not that I guess it really matters.

This "inspection" closed the recall on the car, so now I'm left out to dry. Called Customer Affairs, they reviewed the case, and essentially came back with "sorry, the inspection was performed, we're off the hook."

Is there any other recourse here? I know it's been 5 years, but it's frustrating to be sitting here with a car leaking gas from the lower mounting bracket (exactly as described in the recall), with Infiniti's only solution being an offer to replace a clearly defective part for ~$500.

Thanks for any insight, mainly just frustrated.

Welcome to NICO.

You called 1-800-NISSAN1, correct?

I will take a look at the recall TSB to see how feasible it is to DIY or purchase parts yourself and have an independent mechanic install them.

Thanks for the quick reply! I called 1-800-662-6200 (Infiniti Consumer Affairs, as directed by local dealer). Not sure if that makes any difference, but they set up a case number and took about a week to "look into the issue."

It was just frustrating how almost pleased she was to tell me they wouldn't be covering the repair. I understand they don't want to cover anything more than they have to, but naively I expected them to make it right since it seemed pretty cut-and-dried. It's all been pretty surprising after previous dealings with Nissan/Infiniti

Thanks for any light you could shed on the replacement. I'm pretty comfortable working on cars if I can get some decent guidelines (have done some work on the QX4, my wife's truck, as well as a good amount of work on my car, a 2002 Subaru WRX), but it's been hard to find a lot of information on this one.

I'm on my phone at the moment so I can't take a look at the recall TSB, but you can find a link to it under the Recalls section of the general information thread. It's the Pathfinder specific recall but it should be identical. I'll dig up the QX4 version when I'm back home.

EDIT: I looked at the recall TSB and the procedure is very straight forward. There are pictures for every step. You can obtain the fuel filler tube assembly for $118 plus shipping at Courtesy Parts. Before you purchase it (if you decide to), let me check another source for a possibly cheaper price.

That's just great information, thank you! I'm reading in a bit more, and want to make sure the Strut Housing Corrosion recall is addressed as well, as the presence of rust in the fuel filler neck makes me wonder if we'll see it there as well (thanks to living in the wonderful salt state of Virginia).

If nothing is needed there, or no more hail mary attempts are successful in getting Infiniti to take responsibility on the fuel neck, I'll most definitely be ordering from Courtesy Parts (or anybody else if you have any suggestions).

Thanks again for the great info, this is a great community!

Yes, absolutely have your QX4 inspected for the strut housing corrosion recall if it hasn't been yet.

I'm almost certain that Infiniti won't budge on "undoing" the recall for you to be re-inspected and have the filler neck replaced. It's quite odd that yours was not replaced, especially being in Virginia. My Pathfinder has spent nearly all its life in Florida and my local dealer replaced my fuel filler neck even though it isn't a salt state.

I've contacted someone else about the filler neck assembly, once I get a price quote I'll post it in this thread along with contact details. It'll almost certainly be a little cheaper than Courtesy Parts.

Thanks so much for the follow-up, Towncivilian. I'll double check on the strut tower recall tomorrow (can't remember if this was done already), and if it's already been done I'll likely be ready to order the filler neck in the next couple of days, reviewing the TSB a little more has made me confident that it's something I can handle.

Definitely post up the contact details of the other source for the part if you hear back, especially if it's somebody you're somehow affiliated with - would love to support you in some way as a thanks for all of the great info.

phish575, the filler neck assembly is $104.11 at Nissan of McKinney. Give Rob a call at 1-866-742-0297 and you can order over the phone. Sorry it took a while to get the price.

I know it's an older thread, but my truck has started leaking gas. Noticed it today when I filled up.
Lots of gas poured out onto the rear tire.
Does anyone know if there's an update on the filler neck recall to include 2002 models?
If not, how easy is it to replace?
Thanks.

more info: Took a closer look at it this evening. Pulled back the plastic cover hiding the filler tube and found the source of the leak.
There is a hole the size of my thumb in the filler tube near the top. It's about 6 inches in from the end where the gas cap goes, right above the rear tire.
it's not at the lower mounting bracket like it says in the recall notice.
The other issue now is that the two upper brackets that hold the plastic cover in place have completely disintegrated.
The cover is flopping around, and I have no way of attaching it again at the top. Damn Canadian winters.
I wrapped some foil tape around the tube to temporarily prevent any dirt from getting in.
Just feeling around with it leads me to think I've already sent some pieces of rust and dirt into my gas tank. Hope not.
I've also had my check engine light on for a while with the p0455 and p1448 evap codes.
I suspect that hole has something to do with it. Any guesses?

This truck has been good to me for so long that I hesitate to complain, but lately it's starting to show it's age and give me problems.
I don't want to start pouring money into it.
I think it's time to go shopping before next winter.

Thanks guys.

Guess I started a trend opening old threads... LOL :)

After looking at the part online it doesnt seem too complicated only concern i would have is how the stupid thing is attached to the tank... if its welded as i assume..then tank replacement may also be needed ... do not quote me as i am not sure on that part.

good luck

Thanks for the feedback. Took a closer look and it seems the neck is replaceable without dealing with the tank.
I'm out of town at the moment, but will deal with it when I get back.
I'll keep everyone posted.
