Hi Everyone.

Can someone help me. I have a 2006 M45 with 87,000 miles.

Overnight I have noticed a noise coming from my front left wheel area. At first I thought it was my Bizzaks getting worn down. But I took my vehicle to my Infiniti dealer b/c I was worried it was a bearing issue.

They claim they put a stethoscope to the wheel and did not pick up any strange noise and said my tires were cupped.

I just purchased 4 brand new tires and the noise is exactly the same. Zero difference.

The noise is most noticable above 45 MPH. At highway speeds I have found out that the noise is the same if I'm going straight or going thru a right hand curve. But a left hand curve will make the noise quiet down substantially.

I drive tons of highway miles and certainly cannot afford to have something like this go bad on me...

Any idea's...could this still be a bearing...or something else?

Thank you,

Dan

Take it back to the dealer that told you the problem was the tires. Show them you replaced the tires due to their "fix" to the issue. Take the tech or service adviser for a test drive with you and make the car duplicate the noise. Your description sounds just like a worn hub bearing by the way. These dealers are sometimes really quick to avoiding taking care of the customer the way one should be taken care of. I've noticed this varies quite a bit per location and dealers attitude. Take it back and make sure you show them they were wrong and their misjudgment cost you money out of pocket for no solution to their problem they stated. Good Luck.

I also think this is sounding more and more like a wheel bearing

I had something similar ... found out the mechanic put only 1 of the 2 bolts back in the caliper so the caliber was bumping down on my rotor while driving.

Put the 2nd bolt back in and the noise went away.

I too thought it was a bearing at first ... but generally speaking when I've had bearings go in older cars of mine growing up there was always a grinding sound you could hear inside of the car or a dull roar if you will.

OK...got the car fixed yesterday!

It WAS a bearing! Just like we all thought. The first time the dealership looked at the vehicle they spun the tire on the lift at about 70 mph but the noise did not show up b/c there was no weight/load placed on the tire/wheel.

The second visit they actually took the car for a road test and found the noise right away!

You guys were a huge help...thank you for all your input and ideas!

The cost was $430...I thought that was reasonable considering the other prices I've seen dealerships charge for this...$400-$550 from my basic research.

They also recommended a fuel injection cleaning service...that was $120. Did I need that??? Who know's...but I thought after almost 90,000 miles it couldn't hurt!

Thanks ag ain!

I have an appointment at the dealer this Thursday for a front left bearing noise in my car. My warranty is still in effect until July 28 so I want them fix any and everything they can find. I initially thought my tires might be the problem. However I have replaced one tire, and rotated and balanced all of them. The noise is still there. I will drop it off and get a loaner Thursday afternoon. I also ordered a new un-cut key off e-bay yesterday. Hopefully they can cut and program it while working on the wheel bearing.

Walmart does the exact same fuel system cleaning that other places charge 100.00 +. They do it for around 30.00.

I got both replaced today. Also getting a oil consumption test started. I check the oil and it was almost at mid point with only 1700 miles since the last oil change.

How long did you have to wait for a new bearing. I have a bad front wheel bearing on my 2006 M35X, as diagnosed my dealer on Apr 20. They ordered a bearing and scheduled the service for today. This morning my dealer called and said they couldn't get the bearing and are expecting it on May 8. Does this sound reasonable to anyone? Car is under warranty.

I visited my dealer this afternoon and after a heart-to-heart conversation with the owner regarding my disappointment with the service and my request for a loaner car for the next 9 days, the wheel bearing magically arrived at the dealership today and will be installed on Friday.

The local dealer replaced both of the front wheel bearings on my 2008 M35X about a year ago, while the car was still under extended warranty. I just started hearing the familiar noise from the right front wheel. Any suggestions as to getting Infiniti to make good on this?

Premature wheel bearing failure is a common problem with Infiniti vehicles. Your powertrain warranty should cover the wheel bearings.

Did you try this one? http://www.amazon.com/Timken-HA590125-A ... 0202-ej70a

Autozone sells that part for 289.00 on their website. Autozone also says that it will fit 2008 and 2009 m45, but not 2006 and 2007 which I don't think is true....but maybe it is.

It's also Prime so it will get to you pretty quickly if you have prime. I may be wrong all together and the part I linked you to may not even fit.

I believe it's aftermarket brand, but the following is one of the reviews from amazon for that item:

"Appeared to be manufactured by same as OEM Nissan parts
Easy to install and not had any issues of yet
Recommended and Thumbs up to Prime 2 Day shipping
2005 Infiniti FX35 AWD ;) "

I was lucky to get the last 2pcs from a total of 12 sold.

You have to call the parts dept and ask for the person in charge of the ebay ads. Give him your vin # and ask for the part # for your car.

My 2006 M45 RWD part # is 40202-ej70a for the front

ebay seller: gwinninf

Good luck, Freddie :dblthumb:

I just did mine yesterday. Only real difficulty was I broke the head off the bolt holding the speed sensor. Otherwise the repair is pretty straight forward. I found these DIY instructions by asavage very helpful:

How long did it take you to do each side?

I'll be doing it on the ground with no air tools :frown:

I only did one side (other side done by my mechanic a couple of years ago). I'd say it took me two hours or so except for the broken bolt which cost me another couple hours get supplies and fix. This was with hand tools in my garage. Now that I've done it once I think I could do it much faster. It's not a complicated job but the rusty bolts after 135K miles were a little stubborn.

That sounds like a good price. I recall paying about $425 a couple of years ago.
