Ive been looking at orderring some wheel bearings from rockauto for the next time I changed my rotors which will be soon.

They list so many different bearings for our cars front though I am confused. Some look like the conical bearing Im sed to seeing, but some are listed as bearings that look like rings.

Is there 2 per wheel in the front?? :gotme :gotme

Any partcular brand anyone thinks I should go with off there website??

Apparently there is an inner and outer wheel bearing according to Courtesy Parts' exploded parts diagram.

Empty V replaced only the outer wheel bearing when he replaced brake pads & rotors (see his write-up), but that's only because he replaced the inner bearings a year prior to his write-up. He used Beck/Arnley for the outer bearing, which in my experience make excellent parts.

I don't know. A member posted in the thread I linked:

Putting a new seal back in however is more difficult.

Ya hey must be on the hub/spindle somewhere. Last time I changed the rotors I re-used the outer wheel bearing and never seen the inner. hmmmm

It's not incredibly difficult.

There are two bearings one on each side of the hub. Just remove the seal on the backside, and you can pull the inner bearing out. Just take note of everything's original orientation.

Even putting the seal back on (or a replacement one) is not hard. Just have a rubber mallet handy.

Canuck, yes inner and outer, but check them before replacing. Take the wheel assembly apart but be careful with the bearings, cause if nothing wrong clean and repack them either in their shelter or remove them, clean then DO NOT SPIN THEM WHEN DRY, gently after cleaning and dry rotate them slowly and feel for rough spots, hang up loose needles. If bad get a new set. Do you hear or feel noise while the car is moving, from the wheel area? But if they check out repack them as if they are high speed bearings, not full but leave room for expansion, too much grease is often worse than too little at things over 1800 RPM and the RPM can be figured with speed and distance.

Cleanliness is critical, if you wash them out try to remove them, first see if outer then inner is more or less stuck in, if so get a pipe or brass bar that meets the race and using the race gently try knocking them out squarely. Do not let them fall on the floor. When out and tested repack them with cupping your palm with grease and stroking the bearing through the grease to about 80% full.

Be sure to use the correct grease and be spotless about it, when reassembling put grease on the hub and lube any rubber contact, check for over greasing and remove if you have too.

A good time to lubricate the calipers too. Not with bearing grease!

Anyone have the procedure to lube the calipers? Im at 129.5k and i never did this yet. My next pad change should be in the next couple of months so i will do it then if someone has a how-to.

Thanks
