Hey I was wondering, for you guys who live in states that require front plates on your car, what do you do if there's no place to put one on?? I live in Chicago (front plates required) :( but my car was previously owned in Michigan (no front plate laws) so there's no holes or anything to put a front plate on. My bumper is so nice and smooth I just couldn't bare to screw holes into it. Has anyone tried mounting it under the middle part of the bumper ? would this restrict any airflow?

yea, I have friends who have theirs in their dashboard, but I think that looks crappy when you're riding in the car, plus it rattles against the windshield :(

I don't have one on either, and I have holes for it. if they pull you over, it'll be for something else usually, and they'll try to tack **** onto it, like registration, no front license, etc. if they pull you over and all they can give is a no front license, they are ****s and they know it. it's kind of embarrasing, too. but I don't know what kind of cops you have. I'd say be creative... check out some of the magazines and jdm cars to find out where they are mounting theirs. I've seen some cool hookups.

do you have a intercooler or radiator? takakaira is sellin this license plate holder that you attach it to and it also tilts the license plate for aerodynamics and also you cant get caught by speed traps cus they wont be able to see your license plate at in a angle

You're right, most cops will not pull you over for that alone. I think I'm just gonna keep it in the car and toss it up on the dash if I get pulled over :) Another really retarded law here is you can't have your front side windows tinted, at all! just rears. I think I should move back to Florida

I put a bumper on my car with jdm size holes in it for the plate. I had my plate in my front window but hated the rattling, so i just threw it on the floor in the back. Haven't been pulled over in about 4 months with it like that.

what do you mean? isn't that the whole point though if you're not gonna put it on your bumper? so they CAN see it and you don't get a ticket

i have mine in my windshield (passenger side). you can see that there's a plate there, but the wiper obscures the numbers unless you look at it from a really high angle

Just saw that takakaira design, that's freakin sweet, wonder why no one has ever thought of it. It looks really easy to make too if you have a couple pieces of sheet metal and hinges.

Putting it on the dashboard is also illegal to you guys that have it on there. Must be mounted at a certain height limit. I think it was like no higher than 48 inches or something. It's on the dmv website if you guys want to look it up.

And this is just an independent incident, but a while back my friends went to the local outlets and this one chick stopped them to tell my friends an unfortunate tale that happened to one of her guy friends that had his license plate mounted on his dashboard also. Well, the guy got into an accident and the plate flew at him cutting his neck bleeding to death.

While on the subject of license plates... note that for you Texas folks, it is now ILLEGAL to have a frame around your license plate that covers up the "TEXAS" on the top of it. You have to be able to easily recognize that it says Texas on the top...

They enacted that law because of the cameras that they are using on Tollways for toll enforcement and in intersections for red light enforcement.

To back up RYanT-so long as you HAVE the license plate in the front and it's somewhat visible (and it is, I've seen it in his car) when the cop comes to check it out, he's not gonna care. And this is ASSUMING you get pulled over JUST because of your license plate, because if you get pulled over for something else, unless the cop is a real d1ck, he'll be behind you and not go up and check out your front to make sure it's there.

If the cop says anything about it not being visible, you simply say that you have to go and get it mounted at the body shop or something bc your bumper doesn't have holes--(Well, this may not work for other 240's, since my stock s14 bumper DID have the holes, but there's no way in hell i'm drilling through my beautiful nismo bumper)

The way to mount it on the windshield is to take 2 small suction cups, available at a hardware store, slide the plate in flush to the windshield, put the suction cups through the TOP mounting holes of the plate, and stick it to the window--that way it is fairly visible, and it won't rattle....

Oh damn--didn't know it had to be a certain height up...is that just for cali? Ryan/me are in CT, their DMV is wicked behind, we haven't had emissions testing in about a year and a half. Anyway, keeping it on the windshield is better than nothing, because you can make up a story to the cop when he pulls you over (assuming it's JUST for the plate), and you most likely get a "freebie," all that you have to do is feign ignorance to the minimum height laws.
