Frapjap pretty much copied off of me and got himself a Miata the same day I went out to buy one on Feb 12th.
Anyway, I've named it Scooty for the meantime. It's a 96' R package ( no power steering, no power windows, no power mirrors, no cruise.. but a/c surprisingly--and most welcome).
The R packages had stiffer springs than regular NA Miatas and they come equipped with oem Bilsteins, and the torsen LSD (ahem, FTW). It was in pristine shape until the previous owner took it through some awful car wash and they stripped a section of paint off the bumper (not a big deal to me as it helped with bringing down the asking price by a lot). (There was a similar sport package Miata in the NB chassis too if anyone was wondering).
First fill up leaving Harrisburg:
My friend laughed at me for a bit as I tried to find where the fuel door release was. (It's a little switch inside the center console)
On the way home 76-East:

The next day I of course took it on some back roads. We had a big melt and while the roads were dry and clear new potholes developed--they were pretty awful.
So no shenanigans, but I did find very creepy abandoned house in PA and a place to pull off so I took some pics.

First thing I've done so far is replace the tape deck with a cheapo headunit because I absolutely can't stand the radio.
Lot of general maintenance on the menu before I can do anything for prepping it for autocross. Such as the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, valvecover gasket, general tune-up stuff, etc.
I want to get a roll bar fairly soon as well. Tires are going to have to wait for a bit. Luckily the Michelins Exaltos are "okay" and still have good tread left.
Driving thoughts thus far: I miss the torque of the 240, but the Miata makes up for the lack of it in throttle response and nimbleness. Rev's nicely. Stock exhaust is pleasant.
Did I mention it doesn't have power steering? It's pretty much not noticeable until you have to do some fancy parking. Otherwise, I love the lack of it. It feels quite solid. Suspension is still plenty firm for its age (it has 65k).
The 240sx will be sale eventually once I get some fuel issues sorted out on it.
