The first time i saw the Mugen NSX RR's red interior i fell in love. I had to have it. Well not the actual car. But the vibrant red suede. I figured I'd buy a s*** dash rather than use my uncracked black dash just incase things didnt go as planned. So I pick up a cracked brown hud dash for just $15! I really wanted a GPS at the time, but I never wanted to spend that much on one. I'm 16, so money doesnt flow in. My brother told me about the amazon deal of the day, Tomtom 540t for $120 rather then 180. I said f*** it, ill buy it. I always wanted to put one in my dash. I hate when theyre just laid down flat with the dash. I love in the new cars how theyre set back. So I cut a huge square in the dash and went from there. I hotglued cardboard in the setup I wanted and laid fiberglass over them. It still needs work but I decided id quit for the night. When I'm done my whole interior will be covered in red suede. Stitching the dash will be hard so hopefully it goes smoothly.

haha im sorry, i guess money flows in...but slowly. The only reason my car looks that good is because I've saved half of everything i make. I don't have all that much into my car. I have a stock DOHC remeber. and my cars never even seen a shop before

the stuff covering the dash. It'll come off it just takes work. If your using an adhesive for the suede I don't think it will bond well unless you get it off. Good luck though! The GPS location looks awesome

thanks! i covered a door panel already and it went fine. I'm also stitching pieces together, so i wont need to stretch the fabric and rely on the glue as much. i guess we'll see

I'm almost done doing my whole interior in black microfiber suede. All I did was prep everything with 100grit and a wash to remove residue..haven't had any problems yet and it's been on there for over a month. I used 3m Super 77 adhesive. Check my build thread for pics

yea ive been following your build. did you cover the dash in one piece? i would emagine that to be very hard. I have to stitch mine either way because of the gps cutout. i also have 3m super 77, broadfield told me its not realy good though, and a much heavier adhesive is better. I think i might try spraying the heavy stuff of the dashboard, and then the misty 3m stuff on the back of the fabric. that way it wont bleed through.

I wouldn't mind trying something else, but it has held up pretty good thus far. The dash was 1 piece except for the sides, they were overlapped, it's not terribly noticeable but I'm going to be redoing it this time with a HUD dash and red stitch on the sides/cluster 'hood'/doors

Pretty nice idea man.

I would say definitely move it forward a bit and do not forget to fill the crack at the top of the screen

quick question: are you removing the ac? If not, where are you going to put the center vents and ac controls?

Hell, I'm 19 and I wish my car looked like his car...

Good fabwork man. I've always wanted to do this but never had the materials. Are you going to relocate the a/c vents or just get rid of them all together? Also, suede does fade in the sun right?

yea im going to do black stitching on the red suede. should be pretty cool. let me know when you get yours done

haha i thought of that. its not that far away. I sit pretty close to the wheel, idk about you
Hoffman5982 wrote:quick question: are you removing the ac? If not, where are you going to put the center vents and ac controls?
i already removed that vent. I had a water temp gauge where the vents were. I'll be relocating it to the bottom of the a-pillar using fiberglass. I still have the ac controls. Those are right below it

diggles240 wrote:do not forget to fill the crack at the top of the screen
the crack at the top is so i can stick my finger in there and remove it. so i kinda need that. when its in the car you cant even see it unless your a midget. that way if i have a long address to put in or something i can take it out easily

i buy all the materials at autozone. theyre good enough. idk if id use it to build body kit but unless someone punches my dash it'll be fine. like i said i already removed the center vent. I just use the side ones. and yes suede does fade. ill be covering my windshield with a 50% tint and the rest of my windows with 25%. this should help greatly. if it fades w.e. ill probably cover it again in a different material. If my dash goes well im going to attempt covering my bucket seats also. Black suede inserts and red suede outside. stay tuned!

Nice dude, it looks like it's going to turn out well. even if there are some imperfections it in, the suede will cover it up. Maybe broadield will come in here, he might have some suggestions.

i talked to him and he helped me out quite a bit. this was all before i started the gps thing though. he gave me some tips on stitching it all together though. plus i have my grandma to help me out! :yesnod and yes, one thing i love about suede is you wont be able to tell if anythings wavy or not. speaking of im still looking for the right color red suede. this lady on ebay is sending me samples so hopefully they'll be here soon.

Sounds pretty badass. Im doing my door cards, shift boot, arm rest, pillars, and headliner in black suede, since ive always loved suede and i think it looks sick in cars. Now it seems like everybody is doing lol

Update us with pictures as soon as you lay the suede! i cant wait to see how the red is going to look. I know exactly which NSX your talking about

That's awesome. I'm always looking for new ideas on any mods.

I want to do a black suede with 3 or 4 gauges recessed into the dash, kind of like a 350z.

One thing to make sure is your GPS isn't going to hit the HVAC, or were the center vents used to be?

wouldn't that be a little hard to reach? i mean its touch screen and all right? it seems a little TOO set in to me. but it looks pretty good. i don't like how the roundness of the tomtom still kinda shows. oh and what kinda of fiberglass are you using?
