its going a little slower than I thought it would be. Found an L18 with no carb and dizzy but the owner wants US200 for it. Still seeing trouble to find a L28, but I'm hopeful. :rotfl .I haven't got a lot of time to myself these days but I hope to start commenting on posts again soon. :rotfl

Here's the latest. My brother found an electrician who has done these ECUs before. He came within two days of receiving our call. He said the last electrician tied several wires to the ECU together and blew the ECU. The distributor also is supposed to send a signal to the ECU to fire the injectors and no signal is coming out. So if I want to keep this engine I have to source an ECU and a distributor. He recommended sourcing a CA18DET or an SR20DET to replace the Z18. Well searches done locally have not found a CA18 but I was able to find an upgraded SR20 for US 2100.00. More info soon.

Ok. Unfortunately the alternator on the SR touches the steering box on the truck (RHD), and the bottom hose has to be extended to pass below the alternator. Therefore I chose to use a different power plant. Some may not like the choice but I'm going with the IS 200 beams engine, 210 HP at the flywheel from factory. Pics will be coming as the project restarts. :naughty:

Well I ran out of time as I was also helping a co-worker to change the shocks on his civic coupe. The guy in the pic of the Napz being removed is my brother who has the 1980 king cab with the RB20DET. No work done today but tomorrow is another day. :dblthumb:

 No Work done. Have to move all my welding and cutting equipment to my brothers place and I have no transport. Yeah I sent the wifes car to the body shop. The post of the repairs is in others (the car). :tisk:

Bad news. After moving the master cylinder and booster for the engine to sit properly in the enine bay. the alternator rests on the steering box, the oil sending unit and the oil filter touches the chassis. The engine is too big to fit so it has to come out, and I have to start over again. Soon as I have news you all will know :bang

Yeah. I had already moved the master cylinder for the brakes to the left side and started to install the clutch master inside the cab using the master from the caravan but ended up with problems with the AC blower and having the brakes master too close to the exhaust. :frown:I also sourced the lagging to wrap the exhaust but the pipes of the extractor overlap each other so it would be difficult to do.

Thats why I traded the 3S in for an L18 with some cash to have the truck back on the road. I have not given up the project because I'm still looking for an L28 to install but decided to have the truck back on the road whilst source and prepare for its install. :dblthumb:

I was just looking into the L28 swap....found a turbo version for $300 complete...how much modification does it take to make it fit? I'm really interested in doing it on my truck.

Not much. What engine is the original Z24 Z22 SD22 or L18/L20b. Any of the last two you wont have to source a gearbox with the engine. You just have to adjust the mounts and run fanless. Double electric fans on the outside.
By the way I've been devoting time to the car so no work done again. Pics will be coming soon.

Lost the camera. All the pics of this last installation is gone. Any way heres the position, mountings completed, changed the diff, wiring completed, AC install almost complete - just to install the dryer, condenser and gas it up, the dashboard has not ben changed yet because the dashboard I bought has issues with the instrument panel. its just to re-install the brakes master cylinder and the clutch master and the radiator and start. Pics will come as soon as I get a new camera. :dblthumb:

Got some good news.:dblthumb: I finally got my brother to sell me his king cab. Its a 1980 and needs a lot of work, so this will be my project. My current truck is now going to be my daily driver. As soon as I get pics I will post. :woot:

Its not good to rush things. I changed the brake parts and the pinion on the diff. In my haste I forgot to properly seal the pinion and there is a lot of oil under the truck. The next thing to go wrong is the gas tank is leaking and I don't know if I can get a new one here. Trying to stop the leak there is a 1 inch hole where its leaking. Up date soon.

You can get a new gas tank for $100 to $150 from a few places online like Rock Auto or Auto Parts Warehouse etc...

Here's a quick link from AutoPartsWarehouse that has some 720 tanks... might have to search and scroll a bit but you should be able to find what you want... http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_ ... issan.html

I live in the Caribbean and shipping would be a little difficult. I took out the tank and fiber-glassed the entire bottom. I intend to start working on the truck every day from next Monday. Updates to come as they happen.

I tried purchasing the tank on line and they won't ship outside the US. Sent an address in Florida and they have problems with getting payment, so I purchased one locally with a pin hole by the drain but otherwise sound for $20 US and no shipping. Sent it to clean and line and will get it back on Wednesday. Re-tapping the hole for the sender, the tap broke in the hole, so I took back out the engine as I could not get the piece out with the engine in the bay. As soon as I reinstall the engine and tank, I'll be starting after 28 months. Lets hope for the best. :dblthumb:

Its all back in and connected. Doing some work home so starting would be soon. Went back to work from Leave today so my time is limited again. I will be concentrating on building my drag car so the truck will have to suffer some more.

Looks like I can't get a break with this truck. Had a good day yesterday. Checking all electrical stuff, I put power on a wire in the harness by the battery and now I have no oil, charge, or head lights. As soon as I change the oil and carb, I was going to start. We'll see how it goes.

:yesnod Got the tank back and installed. Repaired all gauges in the instrument panel but I still have no dashboard lights, so all the gauges work. I'm still going to change the dashboard but only when I'm carrying the truck to the body shop. The emergency brake is giving me some trouble. its adjusted to about 6 pounds drag on the drum but when the lever is pulled it doesn't slow or stop the truck. The brake pedal is good also. We'll see how it goes. I also have to do the power steering install I'm trying to source the pump with a single V pulley and an arm to connect to the drag link from the box. :bigthumb:

Clutch started leaking. Changed the rubber in the slave cylinder and it still leaked. Had to change the whole slave. Works beautifully now. Instead of bleeding the system I just filled the resivoir, opened the bleed on the master until fluid flowed and then pumped a few pumps then let it run out of the bleed on the slave. I have good clutch now.

Lost brakes going to work. Drove the truck home and checked the diff. The pin and spring holding the shoes in place broke and the shoes shifted, as the shoe shiftfed the adjustor dropped and the spring for the emergency brake dropped off. Every thing is damaged.
