Hi guys

I am located in the Republic of South Africa. These pick ups were very popular in south Africa in the 70's and early 80's. There are many that are still running today. I have my dads original 1972 Datsun 521with the J15 (1500cc) engine and I am busy restoring it. Will post pics as I go along

Yes it's a RHD and it also has the column or steering shift gear lever. Everything else is the same as the ones you have.

There are lots of second hand(used) 521 pick ups lying around. I will compile a list of available spares and post it onto this site. Body parts are still available although not made by Datsun/Nissan themselves. They are made by a private company but are of the same specification as the original ones.

True, bumperettes are precious. Last night, I spoke to a former Datsun service mechanic. He told me that as the 521's came in from the docks, they'd strip off the bumperettes, throwing them IN THE TRASH, to install a step bumper, adding to the Dealer installed options, and, of course, the profit margin.

Man, I'm all alone up here in Canada, so far anyway.  More parts for me, I guess.

Another northwesterner here, Keizer Oregon to be exact.  Love the Frapper maps, have them on a couple aviation boards I frequent.

<--- As you can see, I have probably the world's ugliest pickup that is still roadworthy; had it for 16 years now.  It has done a lot of work and I like that I can get into some pretty tight places with it.  Just have to be careful when making scrap runs that they don't try and toss it on the crusher.

Coastal Northern California, near Eureka

Hello folks.  No Datsun pickups adorn my driveway yet.  I've been half-heartedly searching (the local market) for a Datsun 521 or 620 for about a year and one half now.  Maybe by this time next year I'll have one -- a Datsun truck, not a heart.

:D

I just bought a 69 521 and in the process of getting another one.I have an 86 720 King Cab full blown custom with RHD.Its almost finished so a second project is in the works with a 521.It will be a mild custom but should turn heads.

Bryan welcome to the site. Both your 521's are nice. Are the rims on the green truck for sale?

haha, um, i might part with the rims.  i don't want to do anything to make the part bin immobile, because i may have to move it at some point, and i don't want to drag it down the driveway.  i'm in the process of disassembling the green one now, to see what i actually need.  i was in the process of redoing the green one when the 72 popped up, so now i need to take stock of what i have.  i had a 67/69 (i forget) roadster radiator recored to use in the truck, picked up shocks, brakes, various rubber, spare head, clutch plate, and other random s*** i thought might work... and even sent off the rusted gas tank to be repaired (it's gonna cost me 250+ shipping, so i won't be getting that back until after i get paid end of the month...)  so now if have a bunch of s*** that i may or may not need...   i do like the pick-a-part feeling when i work on the green one now though.... hahaha

Well just let me know. I understand possibly needing extra parts & not being able to move your truck wont be good. If you were closer i have a stock set of Datsun rims you can have.

Hansraj, I'm curious about the types of body parts that are available for the 521 pick-ups.  Most Datsun pick-ups that you see for sale, have damaged, rusted, or missing parts, mostly the front apron (under bumper), rocker panels, tailgates, and the directional signal panel (between headlights and bumper). Some of those parts can be repairable (necessarily), but would be much nicer as new welded or bolted-on parts. Parts may be expensive, but the final results are much nicer to look at than some repairs that we might be forced to do, lacking suitable replacements. If you can find sources for some of these parts, the end result would be more of these Datsuns going back on the road. John

Hello from Australia, I have a 1970 521 pickup that I am restoring. Can you suggest a source for front guard and bonnet badges and perhaps some interior sun visors.
