There is a good 3.18 mm safety margin going off factory specs and your previous measurements

Which explains why you can run a 60 thou shim and still have at least 1.5 mm safety. No?

Good find on the springs!!

BTW the GTiR inner springs inside radius aligns with the factory radius on the VH45 retainer. No need to machine

so would that allow for more power on a N/A VH45 without any other mods, or would it require a cam regrind?

Could you provide the required dimensions ? I'll draw up a nice tech drawing to get some custom made.

Good work defrag, it's going to be mean when you figure out a mint combo of OEM parts that'd be a suitable upgrade ! Should be pretty cheap too aye !

it looks like a little careful work with a 'dremel tool' on the rocker will solve the slight interference. Make it a smooth long radius relief and it should not be a problem.

What about the pistons with that much valve incursion into the cylinder?

Is valve lift [0.39" or 9.9mm] a real problem with such oversized valves [1.5"]..........isn't real problem duration [248] and the lack of overlap to create smooth idle and emissions. The peak curtain area [.39/1.5 =0.26] seems ideal except for the restriction in the valve diameter and intrusion of the guide.

By tuliping the intakes [and guide intrusion] wouldn't you accomplish the same flow increase.......is the exhaust flow insufficient after port work?

I love the fact they made these engines work and last with only 120# springs.

The dadburn problem of having to lug the engine down to 1550 rpm [47 mph] with AC on up a tiny incline [common US situation].

If you are going to the trouble of doing cam work, wouldnt you want to run more lift as well as more duration? Especially if we can find a way to add meatier springs without a ton of custom modification.

Which adds to the engines durability and quietness.

Don't think 1550rpm lugging will be possible with radical timing changes. without multiple dynamometer runs, one is just guessing what gains will be made, and at what price in terms of engine longevity.

Well that's great, SBC springs are a dime a dozen. Of course, most of us don't really have a machine shop at our disposal. Maybe you could tell us how long all of the machining takes so we could get an idea of cost?

That's good news though, i'll be happy to have some more good old american muscle in my motor

Once this is all working, my question to you is whether I'll be able to do this stuff to my JDM spec VH41DE ?

I might have a bit of a compare of the part numbers in the valvetrain between VH41DE & VH45DE.
