Interesting!

I hear the later guides on the 3.2L are subject to earlier failure. Probably why you had so may left over from the 2.5L -2.7L series.

How well do you think those intake valves will hold up on the exhaust side, especially if the engine is turbocharged?

I see in this thread where someone said stock springs are 120#.What is the rate of the SBC spring?

That seems like a pretty big jump in pressure? With a roller rocker the cam might be ok, but what about tuliping valves and hammering some seats?Just asking Tim

defrag010 wrote:The VH does use roller followers, and are 7mm valve stems which shouldn't worry about being tuliped until you start to get into the 300# spring range. The radius on the swirl part of the valve head is small enough that there is enough meat on the valve head to where it will be able to handle it.I wouldn't worry about the seats either until you get into the 100#+ seat pressure, because when the valve closes all it's seeing is the seat pressure. Alot of other similar sized alum head/iron seat heads like a 4g63 are running the same kind of seat and open pressures (except they are paying $$$ for crower springs )
Sounds good, thanks for the explanation.

Yo defrag, can you please compile what you've discovered will work into one post ?

I've read the whole thread a couple of times, but am still a bit confused as to exactly what my parts shopping list should consist of to have the perfect drop-in valvetrain without having to modify my heads.

Please bear in mind that in my country we don't have many american cars, so you may need to state which make/model/year car's engine all these parts are from.

Cheers!

So SBC valvesprings with the stock spring pad milled down .150" and what retainers?

I would prefer to keep stock valves and seats in my motor (1997 VH41) but I want to spin 8200rpm or better.

You can use the stock retainers on stock SBC springs if you mill the springpads down.
