+1 for this hijack, haha. Yeah, it would depend so much on the motor and mods that it's not really an arguement. I was just speaking in general terms. If you throw enough money at a 4 cylinder, it can beat whatever lightly modded 8 cylinder, but then throw the same money at an 8 cylinder and it's a different story. And blah blah blah, I didn't mean all the time, just in general. 4 cylinder engines aren't really known for their pavement-tearing torque.gr8scott72 wrote:
Yes it was a blast and I ran a 13.9 1/4 in it on street tires.
My point was that we are not talking about a stock KA or SR. I was talking about a built/boosted one at the 400 hp mark or so and how I think it would be cheaper/easier to do a swap of that kind rather than the V8 you are talking about or even the tt vg.
Torque on turboed motors is crazy even on 4 cyl.
I just don't think that the V8 is enuf of a jump in power from stock to justify the time, effort, and money of a swap. If i'm going to spend the time and money to do a swap, I want at least 400 hp which is why I've always thought that a KA or SR swap would be better.Jakw wrote:+1 for this hijack, haha. And what about sourcing the V8 they used in Japan? Would things be set up too differently with RHD to make it work? I've never really looked into it enough to make any intelligent conversation on the matter.
Except you could probably get a decent used KA for just a couple hundred. Way cheaper than the V8.Jakw wrote:I sort of agree. But at the same time, you're still looking at custom mounts and all of the money for mods and the motor itself. It's not like using a smaller engine makes everything cheaper and easier. Throw the same amount of cash at an 8 cylinder, and the 4 would be blown out of the water. Yeah, you'd have more room, but for the original swap at least, good planning would be pretty key no matter which route you went. Depends on where your priorities lie, I suppose.
