So my engine's toast...anyone have any idea how tough it'd be to drop a 302 down into the 240?

Any special mods, other than custom motor mounts, transmission swap, etc?

Talk about a sleeper...i can get a 400hp 302 for $2500, throw it into our tiny little lightweight 240 and watch the rubber fly.

Just a curiosity thing at this point, but could turn into a possible consideration

$2500 plus whatever the cost of all the custom fabbed stuff to get it in there. Chances are it's going to get real expensive.

What is going to suck about swapping a 302 into a 240sx:

-Custom mounts-Custom exaust-Custom Driveshaft-Custom hoses and piping-Wiring-Wiring-Wiring-Wiring-Wiring

Did I mention wiring will really be a biznitch and a half?

American motors are waaaaayyy easier to swap around. The simpler layout and design make them more suitable for multiple applications. Talk to Aries he should be able to help you out...

HAHAHA. Im sorry but a SR, CA, RB etc.. are WAY easier to swap into a 240 than any V8.

Why would you mess with a Carburator setup? Fuel Injection, is more consistent, flexible and reliable; and it makes more power.

I guess a 302 is a relatively "smaller" engine than the other v8s? Since the ka is pretty heavy in itself, I guess you could pull off some nice weight distribution...

anyways, I love the ls1 option....

Size isnt what matters, there are tons of V8's that can "fit" in a 240sx. If your concerned about the weight, just get the all-aluminum VH45DE. It still wont be easy, by any measure, to put in.

I would so put a VK56DE in there before a LS1 :D

Searching old posts will reveal the name of a company who has in stock, mounting kits for the narrow angle ford small block(best engine) 302 into the 240sx.

The all aluminum BOSS 302 would be sweet!!1

I couldn't find anything when I searched. Can you give me a link to the site or an e-mail address/phone number?

heh.

To anyone thinking about the V8 swap...

Not a good plan if you need the car running for a daily driver, or don't have $8k+ to flush.Chances are even once the car is running, you'll still have $5k in problems to fix before you're happy with it :(

That directed towards me?

If so, yes, I realize this.

Is it a secret or are you guys going to stop treating me like a newbie and tell me who has these mounts in stock?

Aries.....what would a set of your 302 mounts cost? right now my engine is in pretty bad shape.. I have some crower rods and cp pistons I'm trying to sell.. to fund the v8 swap...

I can imagine how heavy that can be on the front end. you could be the only 240 to be able to pivot on the front two wheels!

For example:

V8miata.comQ: What is the weight distribution after the conversion?A: With a half tank of gas, 53/47.

mine?

mine isn't dead...it's perfectly fine, and running like a champ

it was the spare engine that was given to me with the car that was junk

the signatures apparently update in old posts as you change them, because this post was originally made when i put in the spare USDM KA, which promptly leaked coolant straight out of the head

Personally, I find this thread interesting. I disagree with the people who are so passionate about the supposed evils of an American V8 in a 240SX. I do find that it is good to consider all options. In my conversations with my best friend, we even considered doing a 2-stroke engine at one point (an idea we considered and dumped. double the power strokes per revolution but it will never pass any emission inspection, few racing clubs would allow it, and too difficult).

As for my own views, I like the SR20DET swap. I know it is all too cliche now, but I just feel aesthetically there is a certain balance about that engine in that chassi. However there is also a certain thrill to the idea of a 300+ lb-ft of torque going to the wheels.

what can i say, i just love the idea of pulling up next to a ****ivic having him rev his engine, and asking to race, then opening up the exhaust dump, and just revving the **** out of my engine that's almost 3x as big as his, in a car that weighs less, and just seeing him jump out of his skin.....

maybe a blown stroked 351 Windsor would do beautiful things in the 240 :D

I can get a 408ci Windsor that puts out 675hp and 675 lb/ft for $10k ;) fully assembled, and all motor

then we'll throw in the supercharger and just have some fun
