i wasnt lashing* out. and i wasnt asking what it was that was leaking, i was asking if i should (a) ride it out and fix it once im back in Virginia, or (b) fix it now.

which i greatly appreciate everyone giving their opinions on

but at the very end of the thread, basically, he said that he bets its the timing cover. when i had already said that multiple times before his post. meaning he didnt read through the thread as thoroughly as he should've i suppose. plus, its not that easy of a task to remove and reinstall the lower timing cover, like he said.

thats all im saying.

Kevin, i think itll be like...this weekend im HOPING, depending on when i can get all my hubs brakes wheels stuff done. ill definitely let you know before i get goin' man

i say drive it, but try not to get the revs over 4k or so and make sure to pull onto an exit or rest stop and chack car/fluids AT LEAST every 100 miles or so.

Ride a bikeGet a jobMake some moneyFix it later.

You make it sound like having money is your priority, and if you don't have any now, it doesn't make sense to start something you might not be able to finish.

making money is the priority. im just never good at making decisions like this.

even now, im going through all the saved material ive got about re-timing a KA. ive DONE the work before, so i know i can do the stuff. and ive already got another headgasket (felpro instead of Cometic)...im just worried about the oil pan situation. having to re-seal that correctly so it wont leak like last time. and...being able to completely redo the timing chains after replacing the headgasket.

what a pain in the neck.

I dont think the leak could be from the timing chain cover on that side. the channel going to water pump is enclosed. the inlet is outside of cover . maybe one of the hoses that comes in there is leaking.

Tramp you can get a cork gasket for the pan.I put one on mine and have 100% leak free seal since august. It will be an absolute beatch to do without pulling the motor but it could be done i am sure.If you want to limp home how things are try some mendtite sealer for the coolant leak.It doesn't have a bunch of shavings and crap.I have sold 100's of bottles and never had it clog on anyone.

man, that's a tough spot.

my truck has been acting up, but i had to drive to milwuakee (50mile about 55 min away) and the truck took a s*** less then half way up there.

i would try and fix the problem before getting on the road. who knows were you will be when/if the car decides to let loose.ah well. best of luck bud, and i wish i could be of some more help.

also, don't forget about the oil/coolant leaking while driving could create a oil slick and it could cause you to crash..

safty first.

Its the lower cover you need a new one the water jacket may have worn away around the pump and is leaking into the oil and out the bottom to a small leak in the gasket. the best and cheapest thing to do is change your oil and see if it is milky or not as oily as it is supposed to be because it may have small amounts of coolant in it.

btw I didn't read everyone's response due to lack of attention. sorry.....

its NOT the lower cover. the water jacket has NOT worn away. ive just got a loose hose or something under the intake manifold. the leak is on the INTAKE side of the motor, where any coolant passages are hoses, OUTside of the timing cover/block mating surface.

i found this out last night after investigating on the computer and under the hood for a couple hours. there isnt anything leaking from the lower timing cover, its just something in that area.

and i dont think a drip of oil or so in the center of my car will cause me to spin out or anything, buddy. haha

id keep your moving plans. you dont know how long it will take or if things will get more complicated (they always do)

just check your fluids, drive slow when you get to VA, try finding something that makes either public transit or walking an option

well, i figure even if i dont fix the loose hose (or whatevers leaking) or change the headgasket.

all ill REALLY be doing...is losing antifreeze and oil. as long as i keep 'em topped off til i fix it, all that'll happen is a dirty engine block.

im just dreading re-timing my cams and all that s***. getting everything done and having to redo it all again because im half a tooth off, or like...a tooth off on the idler gear and bullcrap like that.

ill fix it sometime, since i now know that my oil and antifreeze arent mixin'

I heard good stories about using cork gaskets and that's how I will do my oil pan next time. I also heard that if you apply a light coat of RTV to both sides of the gasket is even better...

Do not try the Prestone coolant sealer, IT WILL kill your thermostat and clog your engine coolant system.

Thats exactly how i did mine. Tramp the timing is very simple.Thats why each sprocket has dots, and the chains have a different color link to match to the dot on the sprocket. As long as you set tdc in the begining you can't really screw it up.
