As for the Yaris, I think it's more smart than the ForTwo. My buddy bought the 2-door hatch with the 5-speed and it's a surprisingly peppy little car. The back seat has more legroom than most people would think, and he gets 35 in town without hypermiling. It's basic transport without feeling cheap. If they made a 4-door hatch, then it probably would have been on our shopping list.
They do make a 4 door hatch. Its the only one I've considered.

They call it a 5 door because of the hatch, its considered a door.

Ah, but that's new for 2009. When we were shopping for my wife in May 2007, the Yaris was only available as a two-door hatch and sedan.

That's just a Toyota-badged Scion xD...not sure why they didn't offer this from the get go, seeing as the world markets had 5-door Vitz (Yaris) models all along.

Nice car though, probably great mileage.

I should clarify that the Maxima didn't just loose it's manual transmission option in 2007. It lost it's quite respectable 5-speed auto as well. Both were shoved aside so Ghosn could force his stupid CVT on the car.

Same here. Whether I agree or not, I enjoy talking cars.

The CTS's 3.6 liter (the LY7) did have NVH issues early on (which was unfortunate considering that the rest of the car was great). That has been resolved to my knowledge, though. And the higher-tech version of that motor, the direct-injection LLT, is one of the best motors available in the US market right now. Second only to Nissan's fantastic V6 offerings, I'd say.

Certainly if you're looking for a car to get you around that you don't have to think about much, Toyota's your brand. But cars have always been much more than transportation to me, so Toyota's transportation appliances don't do anything for me.

I am actually very interested in the new iQ from Toyota, though. I think they've done pretty much everything right with that car for the market it's designed for. It's superior to the Smart and will probably do very well. It also looks kind of like a Storm Trooper, which helps me ignore the bad Toyota styling. I'll never buy an iQ (at least, not for a decade or so) but I'll be watching it's progress closely.

I didn't know it was new. I thought they've always had it, cuz like you said its just a toyota badged xD.. Not that i was into the yaris.

I'm actually looking to stick with the Chevy badge, if my cavy does make it as far as a few have.

Tho yes, the yaris is great. I've searched the forums and people get 40+ in theirs. I'd love to get that in my Cav. But sadly i barely get 30, if i drive straight city i get 23. >.<

Yeah, just making sure...I realize sometimes I come across as an ***.

I'm pretty impressed by the iQ as well, as it seems like they'll actually pull off the Smart ForTwo-sized car with a polished drivetrain and correspondingly high mileage.

Once they make it over here, I'll bet most ForTwo early adopters will kick themselves.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for a car like this, either, but who knows, may be kind of fun.
