A while back I cut out and made a custom gps mount in my dash. My original plan was to wrap it in red suede. First I modified the dash to look like this

Now I started searching for red suede. After about 3 weeks of trying i couldnt find any bright red suede. So I just bought black instead. After hours of trying to stitch pieces together and making them fit right I gave up. Then it hit me, just flock it. So I did some research and found Donjer.com. I was going to order the normal red, but I read from a guy its more pinkish. So i decided i'd have them custom make the color for me which takes about 2 weeks and is $10 extra. Lucky me they already had a extra batch of a rich red. So I ordered 2 3oz bags, one red and one black, and then adhesives to go along with them. I must say this stuff is pretty flocking awesome. Its pretty easy too. Just make sure you get enough fibers on everywhere or it'll be thin in some spots. The fibers that fall on the ground you can reuse, so make sure to have a sheet underneath. So far I've only done my door panel and the radio bezel trim thing.
To spice my door panel up I needed something for the panel insert. If i flocked it red that would be to much red. I need something to set it off. But black would be too boring. So i decided to get some black synthetic leather and stitch white going across. And then the other way so its checkered. I also bought real leather for the final product. But after hours of stitching lines I said forget it, you cant even tell. I plan on doing my seat inserts too so for that I'll use the real stuff. So here are some pictures. I must say I'm pretty proud of myself. When everythings complete it should like awesome. Other door panel, dash, a-pillars, glove box, misc trim all still need to be flocked. Stay tuned

flocking is pretty easy. you get a brush on adhesive. Which is like paint. Its color matched to the hair fibers so the color is even. So first you brush that on the item, then you get a bag of little fibers, which are very short hairs. I bought a tool from donjer which is like a pump that shoots out the hairs. Then the hairs stick to the adhesive and take about 2 days to dry.

Maybe you can help me out. I'm trying to recover my door panel inserts with some leather looking vinyl but I can't get it anywhere near as clean looking as you did. How do I avoid getting wrinkles or creases in the corners where the panel is the most curved? I got it to look good everywhere except in the very front and back bottom corners where I always ended up with too much fabric that had to be folded and looked like crap.

i cut the instert out from the back. so you can take the piece and wrap the fabric around it. I don't know how people do it leaving them connected. Its near impossible to shove the fabric in the little crack and get it looking good. I guess it really depends on what fabric and adhesive your using. I use to think thin fabric was better because it bended easier. But this time the thick leather worked great. It doesnt crease as easy which is good, but it still bends and stretches. A big plus of thick fabric also is you can apply plenty of glue to the backside. With thin material it seeps right through. Also use good adhesive. I used this 3m stuff in a huge can that shot out like webs. Apply 2 coats to the fabric and the door insert and it should stick. When theyre a wrinkle you should be able to work it out and the glue will hold it from coming back. Hope this helped. If you want to talk to someone really experienced talk to broadfield. If you still cant get it flocking it is super easy. Good luck!

haha I appreciate your criticism. Just curious what little projects haven't you liked? I didnt think I had that many. I'm glad you like this one though. Although the dash IS going to be red.

Make the dash black suede. Red dash would just push it over the edge. It's not a S2k.

I actually really like this. I would leave the carpet black. That nsx is just too red. But I think the red dash and the right amount of black accents would set the interior off really well

The doors look awesome, it's 10x better because you did it on your own. Good thing you added a little black or I feel as if the interior would start to be to bright.

I get flocking sick way too often idk. I have the flu or something its bs. Luke has a cold too in the middle of summer. It could be because summer in california is like winter.
