Fixing a Rusted and Broken Muffler

A few days ago, I heard a loud sound whenever I put my foot on the gas. I recently looked under the rear of my car and noticed the muffler very rusted, had broken off, and was hanging low on one side. I took pictures as well. What is wrong and how can I fix this without spending a lot of $$$?

Welcome to the forum.

Your flange between the connecting pipe and the muffler probably rusted, which means you will have to get new ones welded in. If the muffler itself is fine, shouldn't be more than $100 to fix at a shop. If the muffler is real bad, you'll need to get that too. They aren't terribly expensive, but it's not a $20 fix.

I recently had this done at a local shop. They just re-welded the pipes (both sides), and replaced a piece that was too rusted. It was about a $100 job all together, and done in a couple hours. Worked great.

BTW, the mufflers were freakin' expensive, something like $600 each. Would have had to order OEM parts. $100 weld job is the way to go if your mufflers are still ok.

I had mine welded at a local muffler shop for about 100 bucks. Looks and works perfectly.
