hey RobDET:

I can wait till mid October if it's going to save me some money. I wont have everything together for a little while anyways.

How about we get a list going? I am 100% also, definetly going to be using this system and I've got the $$. I'm sure if we present a couple distribuitors with a 4, 6, or 8 thousand dollar sale they'd be more than willing to take a couple hundred bucks off, ya know?

ECU plugs are compleatly different. If your desperate, you can do what we did and get the Honda 1010 box (now the 1050 box) and buy the connectors available thru AEM. You then have to modify the box internally (tie two resistors to a 5v referance) and then cut your connectors off your factory harness and then carefully pin your harness to the Honda connectors and plug it in and go.

Or just give them a little more time and it will be ready to go. The Skyline is the next Nissan application to be released and then the S14.

I still cant believe that we will be shipping out our first units to customers next week.

funny that you mentioned that . . . must be why they released a million revised versions for their honda software due the mutiple problems they had had with them.

I've been a member to their forums for quite some time, I've also witnessed the problems that have/had come from some of their PNP units.

The software is the same for all of AEM's applications, and the hardware is largely the same as well. From what I understand they have a universal main board that they use for all EMSes, and then they attach a daughter board that mates with a particular car's ECU. Boost_Veteran, are you saying you think they've had problems in the past with software, main boards, or daughter boards? ...Because if it's one of the first two I think it's safe to say that most of those issues have been resolved.

actually, there has been many IMPROVEMENTS to the AEM EMS software. There have also been some problems or issues that AEM has fixed. We have a 550whp Civic that we have been using AEM EMS on since it was first released with no glitches. We have AEM EMS on our shop Supra that has a serial number of 0002 (second beta unit) that was given to us by AEM to evaluate. Yes, we have had minor problems here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary for ANY stand alone engine management system (and trust me, we have done them all).

The AEM we have in H&Ks 240 has been 100% glitch free since day one. I think they have been making more and more improvements as time has passed. I also believe that the 1600 boxes are also the new smaller units that will fit where our stock ECUs currently reside

It was my understanding that it was more a motherboard problem, but due to the majority of honda problem related ones it could just be a daughter (if what you are saying about a universal motherboard is correct) board problem. I'm not here to dog their EMS by any means, just hoping to get some insight regarding past failures or gliches. I think they were definately in too much of a hurry to release their EMS (might have something to do with why they have AWESOME, plentiful technical help on their website/forums). Their are very nice standalones that havent the problems (or at least that I've heard of) that AEM had when they released their EMS . . . Autronic, Motec, FAST/Speedpro, but it's all good I guess.

I still dont want to be a geinea pig

The advantage of the AEM still lies in the ability to plug-n-play. Using factory wiring/sensors and pinouts is a very attractive advantage to me. PLus it allows me to revert to a factory computer if I ever need to sell the car or pass inspection.

FAST is releasing a plug and play EMS at Sema, and Autronic is releasing/or has released a P-N-P for the Honda guys, they already have software for for 240s (no trigger wheels yet) so hopefully they will do some KA stuff soon.

The biggest advantage to me is that i can get the AEM EMS. Figure out how to use it and THEN use their Stuff to eliminate the MAF once i am proficient at tuning the EMS. One ECU for MAF and MAP setups. No wiring needed at first? I'll take it!

what is this so called "wideband"?

A wide band is an O2 sensor that is designed to detect ALL air fuel ratios. A stock (narrow band) detects ONE AF well... that would be 14.7 AF. It can also tell you if your above or below that number but wont tell you how far above or below that AF you are. A wide band O2 will tell you your ACTUAL AF ratio. This will allow you to tune your car for maximum SAFE HP (low 11s AF) and also allow you to dial in maximum fuel economy (14.7 AF) and dial in your best spool up AF (12.5 AF) etc etc.

Knowing your AF ratio is CRITICAL to tuning your car. As is knowing your actual timing and being able to monitor knock.
