Everyone,

I got my R33 - RB25S1 half-cut to my garage on Saturday. I found a few 'oddities' upon inspection.

1. Maf - it has a J60 (from searching) RB20 MAF bolted directly to an A'PexI air filter. Is it common for people to swap a stock RB25 MAF for a RB20 MAF?

2. No TPS plug - I noticed that the TPS sensor (I think - It is on the throttle body) there was nothing plugged into it.

3. Fluids - The engine was full of oil and I popped the radiator cap, and it was full of radiator fluid. I had been under the impression that it was not lawful to ship a motor with the fluids in it.

4. In the glove box there was a device from 'Yupiteru' (Translates to Jupiter I think) called a 'VE-E200R' says it is a 'Intercommunication System - Telecontrol, Engine Starter, Turbo Timer, & Door Lock. Google did not reveal much, and the translations were .. less than helpful. Is it cool or junk?

5. Also in the drivers area attached to the console is a plug-in for an A'PexI device. It is a female receiver of some sort and another piece plugs into it (Similar to a 1/4" stereo plug but longer) The cable goes back under the console and is cut where they cut the car at - past the transmission. I'm kind of interested in what the A'PexI unit is for, or what plugged into it.

On the plus side, the stock turbo is in prime condition with no play what so ever and spun freely. And it has the Japanese inspection stickers on it, I may try to pull them off and put on the S-13..

I'm also beginning to thing some of the wiring may be a little more 'interesting' from the Jupiter unit But on the plus side, I _do_ have one of the remotes for it.

I can take pictures of anything if anybody has an ideas. Also, what do you clean the A'PexI air-element with? Is it similar to a K&N (water with light detergent and a brush) and do you need to 'oil' it as well? I looked around the A'PexI site and found nothing. Thanks

Is the word "starbo" anywhere on that thing in the glovebox? It's likely a remote engine starter/turbo timer/door lock/*** scratcher.

TMS,No, 'starbo' is not on there, but I do agree with you about it being a multi purpose item. I found some web pages for it, and the manufacturers website, but, since I cannot read Japanese, I was unable to gain much information from there. I assume these devices are not that uncommon in Japan. I am now wondering how butchered my harness is now

I did figure out what the A'PexI device is for yesterday. I removed it and went . It is a remote exhaust-dump opener. Er, It is for the exhaust, you pull a cable and it opens or closes a dump-pipe in the exhaust. I was actually wanting one of these units, but too bad this one is cut in half The reason I thought a device plugged into it was because the handle and cable were missing. I am beginning to think my car may have been ran a little harder than I had originally believed... Anyways, I am going to look for that USB cable and snap some more pics today.

So would I

When I bought it, I had thought it was stock (well, except for the air filter) but when I started digging into it, I found a few 'oddities' as stated above. Does anybody know why the previous owner would put an RB20 MAF on a 25? Better tuning ability? dumb4ss?

And that is why I have a stack of blueblades , a DeWalt grinder, and a truck, to recycle most of the chassis =P Steel is in high demand , plus it allows me to recuperate some funds! I also liked the thought of getting the complete half-cut as opposed to the motor set, but hey, that's me..

The rear subframe was purchased with the clip from Jarco. I paid $150 for the rear subframe. And it is actually from the same car.

hahaha did they actually send the clip with those tires on there or did you put those on there?

Also, I'm kind of in favor of getting a clip as well because you can recoup a lot of costs and help a few people out in the States by selling them your gauge cluster and other misc. crap that people take interest in. And the shell is easy to dispose of. Just call a scrap yard and tell the guy you have half of a car he can have for free without a motor in it and he will sprint over with a trailer lickity-split.

Overall, I think you got a pretty sweet clip compared to some. Almost as clean as mine. How much did you pay shipped?

Don't you dare put that subframe in without changing out those bushings. Buy a set from SPL, or wherever, while you have that thing out and easy access to it. You'll be glad you did.

Darius,

Hah, no, those are my friends tires off of his 66'Stang

That is pretty much what I was thinking about selling it to a scrap yard. I will be stripping most everything out of it and just have the hollow shell left over, like you said, anybody in their right mind would jump on it.

I think my clip was in pretty good condition. I did notice that it got smacked on the (JDM) Drivers side. I assume it was during shipment, because I saw a video of the whole car (with special focus on the VIN tag) and there was not any damage. It is not anything to _really_ be worried about though. It is moved about 1/2 inch back and it was next to the fuse block. But all-in-all it is pretty clean. If I recall, I paid about $3400 for the clip, the sub-frame, and shipping (shipping was $600 ) But it was to my door.

When you say SPL bushings, are you talking about the full aluminum bushing inserts, or the collars? How much of a difference is there between the cheaper collars, and the solid inserts? Thanks.
