after 2 months of searching/research and talking to members on here..... I finally decided to go with the (s13) sr20det blacktop instead of the rb25det... why?

When it came down to it the question was asked "what do you plan on doing with the car?" answer that and you should knoe which route to go

1. cost2. simple swap3. availability of parts4. alot of aftermarket support

Anyways i started ordering replacement parts .. oil pump , water pump ,all belts and upgraded pump ...... still not sure which clutch to go with ... but any other MAJOR parts i should replace before swap that be hard to get too later please feel free to comment ... other misc stuff i have ordered is a (s13) 5 lug conv from Brian (6wks away) and s14 se wheels

its nothing major but you gotta start somewhere right?

ill post pics once it gets uploaded

I think a lot of people forget the meaning of all this... its to have fun, dont worry about the smartasses on here. The sr20 is a great motor and can make good power and be reliable. just rember just to have fun with it.

While the motor looks dirty, it is suprizingly complete. I mean, it looks like you got EVERYTHING, even some stuff you dont need.

As far as the RB comment, dude, doing a motorswap for someone elses satisfaction would be a terrible mistake.

Good luck on your swap, keep us updated.

update: recieved my belts, oil pump and water pump.... after poping my valve cover i notice oil has been sitting for awhile (not a shock) but its kinda tacky and thick ......

after i clean off some of the old oil and do an oil change 10w-30 syn. should i install the new pump now while the motor is out? or try to start it up and get some of that old oil recirculating thru the old pump and then replace it with a new unit? .... i'm worried that if i change it now some of that old oil may mess up the new pump ......

whats the best way to clean out the old sitting oil in the engine without having to take it apart (head/block) since i don't have a garage to work it under?.......

You could install the motor, unplug the ignition coils, fill the motor with really cheap oil, add some of that cleaning junk to it (seafoam?), crank it over a bunch of times, and drain.

I dont know what else to suggest without disassembling the motor, maybe someone else has a better idea.

Do a good job cleaning it while it is out. Also make sure that Oil Pan isnt dented cause it looks like the motor has been sitting out exsposed for a while.

Also check all you electrical while its veiwable and Id go ahead and replace some of the gaskets and seals so you know it wont leak.

Anything will be easier while the motor is out keep that in mind.

update: still ordering misc replacement parts.. gotta question about timing chain/tensioner and guides ..... i knoe to look for wear on the guides to determine if needed to be changed or not put back in?, but when should the chain and tensioner be replaced? i tried searching but haven't found any good info's on changing the chain on a sr20det only KA's ...

im allready replacing my oilpump, should i go ahead and do the chain and tensioner/guides(if used?) aswell? I've changed timing belts before and im sure doing a chain is somewhat the same, just didn't find any good info's for the sr20det.
