So i have been running around 6 psi of boost on my KA for like 2 weeks and everything was fine and dandy and i started to check my vacuum lines because my wastegate is set at 8psi. finally found a loose one and tightened it with a clamp. now i boost 8psi just fine but the more boost im running the more it feels like im towing a trailer. i also have an auto transmission:( (soon to swap) Any idea on whats wrong??

what size turbo are you using? The turbo may just be running out of steam and falling off...

Brand new T25. i dont think it is that because my car starts to accelerated but after i pass about 3psi the turbo keeps going but my car feels like a lead weight. before when i was running 6psi it was hauling *** ( well for 6psi)

Did you retune anything? Maybe you transmission is slipping.

Retune for 2psi, kinda doubtful, sounds more like transmission slippage. Can you emphasize more on this problem?

Thanks,Mike

I didn't really mean that he needed to retune for the 2 psi.. just a question if he tried to retune and messed it up.

lol i sure to hell hope not:crying .. didnt really tune anything.. could my timing be off? it doesnt sputter or anything.. and my RPMs dont shoot up so i dont think its the transmission. it just feels like im pulling my EBrake really hard as i accelerate. wow its kinda hard to discribe.

oh my bad Max heh, Mis understood your thread.

And when you say your turbo keeps going, do you mean you hear it spool, and is it building boost? Does it sound like the waste gate is opening?

my boost gauge still will pen 8psi. just as my boost rises my car looses lots of power.. if my transmission were slipping my RPMs would be rising just like a bad clutch in a manual right??

Great advice. I dont see how 2 psi will make much difference.

yeah thats what im thinking.. its a pretty simple setup. T25 Turbo - custom manifold and piping, Turbo XS Bov. the only thing that was tuned was my timing was retareded just a smidge. i took it for a cruise last night and i still can only hit 6psi unless of the freeway it would peak at 8. so i think that it just started.. maybe it is my transmission

I second that, waistgate creep.

would a boost leak still allow my gauge to read 6psi? that would be the logical thing cuz my car was runnin fine for like 2 weeks

Sounds like a leak when you hit higher boost. Check those clamps.

Its not uncommon. What type of clamps are you using. Intercooler piping quality, as well as teh silicone couplers? Check for tightness, try one of those diy boost leak testers. Just trying to help you out.

Try gapping the plugs down.

they are gapped to .33 right now. I tightened all the clamps pretty tight so i dont think im leaking their.. as for anywhere else i will have to try one of the boost leak testers. i was just thinking about it today and membered that it all start happening after i filled up my gas tank at a 76 station.. maybe a case of bad gas?

Might be bad gas. But it would be a good idea to gap the plugs down anyways. I believe a .33 gap is a little more than you want to have.

Yes, that would cause a boost leak. You might want to fix that [/end sarcasm]

That sucks, big time! What manifold is it? Good luck fixing it!

Do a compression test and a leak down to make sure the motor is still healthy, never know what KA's will do on boost, the turbo might be fine but if the motor is going to go out, that may be a problem. If there were a boost leak your gauge would show peak then a drop off (decline of boost) atleast. Another possibility is the transmission is slipping hard during more boost becuase common sense is that more boost = more power. Good luck man

thanks... yeah motor and transmission seem to be fine. i would be jumpin RPMs if the transmission was slippin. after i get my manifold welded back up i should be back in business. i noticed that it takes a lot longer to reach my peak boost so the hole in the manifold sounds like the corporate of the whole thing. I should have it fixed soon and will let you guys know if that is what went wrong.. again thanks for all the input.
