Damn, don't know how I forgot about chicken livers. They are a staple of my Thursday morning before bed snack.

I honestly haven't had them since I was maybe 9.

We ate real healthy - Mom had a huge garden, and we lived on a lake (and 4 miles from the Mississippi River), so I caught bream, bluegill, crappie, bass, and catfish... being poor, free food was always a plus - we ate a LOT of fish! :)

he's one of those toothless bastards from Alabama.

I was always a piss poor fisherman so that didn't get cooked much.

poor people food is always a comfort food though.

beans and corn bread with some hot chow chow...takes me back to being a kid. Especially if I got some chocolate milk.

Don't matter what mood I'm in, chocolate milk always makes it better.

Beans and cornbread are another one of my favs. As much of this as I ate when I was young, you would think I would despise it. Not the case. I'd rather have a good bowl of beans as a Ribeye steak.

If necessity is the mother of invention, beans and cornbread was the mother of the convertible.

I remember the first time I had a big red....was at a week-long cub-scout camp at the general store. After a whole pack of starburst and that crimson nectar I was running around screaming...and then I vomited.

Am I the only one here who will eat pretty much everything on a good old fashioned pig pickin' ? Mmmmm pig ears, fresh pigs feet and a good pig butt are heavenly. I'll pass on the chitlins though.

You guys have no idea how hard it is for a white guy like myself to get some good southern style food up here in the north. I do seem to get points when I walk into a soul food spot and order Jerk Chicken and red beans and rice with a side of collard greens.

At first they are like:

Then they are like:

Also forgot to mention I love me some fried catfish and brunswick stew and I will eat pretty much and game meat no matter how it's cooked (or dried).

I am surprised none of the southern boys have posted Rockie Mountain Oysters or catfish row. I'll pass on those too.
