Very few times have I found the american dubb to be any worse than the japanese dubs. A lot of tikmes it feels like the japanesde just didn't care about the dub they did. Though I can't say all the time I watch the dub. There are those times when they totally screw it up or change the stiry. Thats the only time I don't watch english dubbs. Just my opinion on it.

most english dubs cut stuff out to make the words line up. i was at A-Kon one year, or maybe it was another con...hmmm...anyways, there was a fan-made commercial for dubbed and subbed videos. the dubbed one sounded good and everything, but it kept showing the exact same scene. the subbed one kept the video going. the ending credits were "Anime, made in Japan, badly dubbed in America." however, My Five Star Stories DVD is HORRIBLY subtitled. i mean things are spelled wrong, in the wrong place, etc. then again, it IS a 20 year old movie.

Engrish is always good for a laugh. Jumping in on this thread so late, just about anything I could have thought of has been said. I'm kind of suprised Iria hasn't yet been mentioned, nor has Armitage. Maybe they were and I missed them. Either way, they are mentioned now. Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion are excellent (though previously mentioned) as well. Oh and I did love me some Galaxy Express 999.. been years since I've seen it. Has anyone ever seen/heard of Casshan? Older anime, but I saw a trailer recently of a Japanese movie coming out called "Casshern" which sounds loosely based on that anime. I liked it personally, but I doubt we'll ever see it here.
