119 when the 240 was still an auto. As a 5spd, like 70. I can't wait to take her up to past 120, since no governor. But, as alot have said, it is alot of loose if you get caught, or wreck. I usually dont drive fast at all. I am a very concervative driver.

I don't ever remember leaving 1st gear.

Until you know exactly what your car acts like, right before it gets out of control, you don't need to be driving at the limit of your tire's adhesion.

Nothing beats runnin something you built on a track, against the other guy, who built what he is runnin.

Werd. I've topped out a few cars but the coolest was about 120-130mph in a Formula Dodge...drafting another car. Very fun.

I'm preaty sure Thunderbirds came with superchargers. My mechanics got one. It looks preaty nice but they only made autos.

There were also turbo T-bird coupes, late 80s or something. An old teacher of mine had one, he beat the fool out of it every day of the week. Also a pretty good place to find a Garrett T3 if you're looking for one.

EDIT: oh.. so thats why people look for T bird when building custom turbos

sorry dont know much bout fordsyea i see turbo t birds in the 80s. but no stick shift right? what about the 60s?55s were beauts.. anyways lets not get off topic..

fastest i've gone was 110 in the 240sx when stock. was going slightly uphill and it didnt seem to have much power. This was a 10 lane highway too so I felt like I was doing the speed limit. (98 240sx's are very smooth and quiet at speeds) Second time I tried this was with hs headers and i got 4th gear up to like 100 or high 90s. speed was moving quicker, but I let off at 110 again. I don't care much for tripple digits on public roads. twistys are more fun like someone said earlier.

The super charged T-Birds are called Super Coupes. Yes there were 5 speed versions. I got a friend who has one and I almost bought one. Really sweet cars. I'm sure the turbo coupes also had a 5 speed, but I've never looked into them much.

hrmmm, hit 145ish in a '77 280Z with a front air day, side moulding and headlight covers. it was a true 145ish according to the tack, gear ratios and tire diameters.

I've been up to about 150ish on my '96 Suzuki RF900RT. Following a freind on his '00 R1 with mods. It was still pulling in 4th gear. had another one left. previous owner said it would do 165, no problems. i beleive him.

buuuut, driving fast is dumb, you get caught, you go to jail and your wallet empties. not that I've been caught tho!! I don't do that anymore, Im older, wiser and have more common sense. uh, huh, riiiiight pushing my luck everytime

the revrend has a little turbo ford history for you kids :

most ford turbos int he 80s were turbo 2.3 litre 4cyl from the ford pinto , lower compression and other little mods and i forget the size turbos for diffrent years but here goes :

1984 -1988 , thunderbird "Turbo Coupe" 2.3 turbo anywhere between 150-180 hp depending on year and trim level 5 speed and automatic

1979-1986 mustang turbo , most powerful being the 1985.5 SVO with 240 hp on tap 5 speed and automatic

1984-1988 cougar xr7 some had the turbo 4 but im schecy on what years/models they came in

1989-1995 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe , 3.8 v6 with a eaton roots type superchager similar to whats on a GM 3800 series 2 supercharged engine (like buick regal 1995-present) , anywhere from 220-250 hp , only a handful of 5 speed supercoupes were produced , one of which i drove and almost traded my late G20 in for , the supercoupe was the only was the only bird you could get a 5 speed in a 1989-1997 t bird

im sure i forgot something else but i have to get back to school

150+ mph in my 1991 Q45 - did sustained high-speed travel in it many years ago (story is in the "Speeding Stories" thread in the Infiniti General section). In my current Q, I have only hit 130 - 135 mph or so.

only been a passenger in these but riding with my brother down I-41 hit 135 in my dad's Q-45 and hit 115 on the back of my dad's bike after this car cut into this rally about right in front of us and my dad flew past him with the one finget salute up. (Bike was 2000 Vulcan, not a crotch rocket)

dont forget the 89-? probe gt's those were 2.2l turbos 150-175hp i think and a turbo that went up to 12psi. with a real gauge. when i first got it i put it in the red all the time(the turbo psi), then it started to be like a ford. (but they were realy mazdas anyways).

oh and on the topic 135 in the car i was just talkin' bout:icesangel

Hehe, I hit 120 in Fred's Q with Cold_Zero working to keep up in his WRX.

Probably the fastest I ever went in my own car was 85 in my modded Turbo Buick. Well, it SAID 85 on the speedo anyway...;)

I don't know how fast I got my last 240 up to cuz the digital speedo/HUD was broke (damn those things!!) but in 5th gear I was at about 5500 RPMs which I'm guessing is about 110 or so?? only had my current 240 for about a month and have crappy tires so I haven't taken it up much past 70. What mph does the limiter kick in?

there where a few 5 speed turbo coupes I think, and there where actually more manual Supercoupes than autos the first year of production. mine's a 5 speed that I haven't topped out yet, have had it doing 110 in third gear though. oh yeah I hit 130 or so in a stock 90 teg, hp isn't so much the main draw in the supercoupe so much as the 100 more foot pounds of torque on the measly 215 hp

the above doesnt make much sense...

I believe they all used the same turbo from a mazda motor, like the MX-6 and 323 had. I've found info suggesting there was actually a factory turbo capri using the above mention turbocharger. That's what I get when looking for info about building a turbo escort to prove skwerel that an escort can own, there's also an awd turbo Escort that was known as the TX3 Laser, think there was a cosworth version too. I still want a 91-95 escort and a 145 mph speedo for my T-Bird so I can bury it in 4th too, 120 speedos just weren't enough for the supercoupe.

yup 91-95 (95 was the last year right?) merc capris xr3s were the same powertrain as the 323 gtx without the awd system

do they make smaller diameter pulleys for the supercoupe ?

only thing i didnt like about the supercoupe was the 3.8 motors heads , overheat it once and the heads are trash , very common on ford 3.8s , even happend on moms 93 bird

didnt the 140 speedo come on the birds with the rounded dash ?

Driving from Socal to Norcal in 4 hrs. about 120 all the way up hw 5 and 80-100 through the twisty freeways. I did it once, and never will again...no need to push my luck any more than that.

http://www.supercoupeperformance.com and magnum powers are good places to look into the supercoupes

there were a few 145mph speedos but are super hard to find

as far as the heads themselves I've yet to here problems from, ford did however use the cheapest headgasket they can find on the car though, pretty damn stupid for a car running 12psi.

and I want a 10% pulley as well as a high flow exhaust, anyone wanna buy it for me? only set you back about 1200 bills/w the headers too...
