They should have updated it five years ago. A car-based tall wagon is a good idea.

WAY TO GO, CHRYSLER.

I believe Freddie Mercury has something to say in this matter:

Wow, they actually sold 1.3 million of those over the last 10 years. Somewhat impressive when you figure the US market only purchased about 120 million cars during that time... Was the cruiser sold internationally? Or did it honestly account for roughly 1% of all auto sales during that time?

Blame Daimler and Cerberus for spending pretty much zilch in development.

Insurance statistics based on owner demographics point to that working itself out all on its own.

I didn't know they were still making them. The only one I ever drove was a 2002 with the 2.4 turbo. Very weird experience. I couldn't see owning one. They even made a convertible out of it too.

This was one of the worst vehicles ever made. The only positive thing I can say about it is that you can easily make a lot of cargo space by flipping down the back seat and repositioning the shelf in the cargo area. When I have to borrow a car from my parents, I actually prefer my mother's Caravan. It handles better, has double the miles (about 200K) and has had half the problems. The Cruiser has approximately 130K miles and we've went through 2 starters and a transmission. Those things are total crap.

SO weird to sit in the back of one of those. You're a couple inches above the driver.

Also...most hilarious thing I ever saw was when I was driving down some backroad and about 50 PT Cruisers or every description came the other direction. If I had one of those things I'd do everything in my power to hide it from the world...not join a freaking PT Cruiser club and go on extremely flamboyant outings. It was like a parade of uglysuck.

I had to tow a pt loser off a railroad tie that was in the middle of the forest. My friend said they were stuck and they needed to get out, so i drove down there and they told me they were off roading  and they hit this random railroad tie and couldn't get out. I hooked up a rope to his tow hook and backed up and ripped off his bumper lol. It actually sounded pretty good

lolwut :bowrofl:

I remember how excited I was to see one of these on the road 11 years ago. A guy was pulled over in a purple PT Cruiser talking on his cell phone. I pulled over and parked in front of him, got out, and immediately tried to open his passenger door to look inside. He unlocked it and said to the caller, "Hold on, some guy wants to see my car"

In retrospect, I could have had my a** kicked. I guess he was used to the attention.

I actually got one of these as a rental when they first came out in 01, when I got it it had 51 miles on it, a week later when I returned it it had over 500 miles on it. I actually liked it. I thought it was fairly sporty, handled pretty well considering what it was, had a pretty good sound system and I didn't feel like I had been sitting on a park bench after sitting in it for more than an hour. I don't exactly understand why they get so much hate, yeah the convertibles are hideous, but I think they have the old school panel van look to them (granted the Chevy HHR actually looks better as a panel van).

Yeah, I can't believe they just let it stagnate when the small crossover/wagon market has been getting progressively stronger. Morons. Just more proof that Chrysler doesn't deserve to live.

The problem with them was not their design. It was actually a clever design when it first came out, and launched the retro look phase in Detroit. The problem was that they were built poorly with very cheap parts. Basically a typical Chrysler. You were fortunate to drive a brand new one.
