I will not cut anything on my car. I will do it right this time around. It just ticks me off that e-fans cannot move enough air volume to cope with the heat of an RB. There are so many high hp cars from the factory which only have e-fans: GTR, just about every Ferrari made, anything mid/rear engine except for air cooled Porsche, etc. I was always impressed by the F430 challenge cars running a 45min to 1 hour race and seeing all the heat waves coming off the engine for an hour when they opened the engine cover. That engine is making way more btu's than my RB, but never ran warm. I think the aerodynamics of the front bumper, intercooler, condensor, radiator leave a lot to be desired on the S14. I also think the oil to water heat exchanger is not helping anything either.

I only needed around 3.5 inches of room to mount mine.
R32 fan, pathfinder clutch (since R32 broke) dropped in from the front, back side trimmed, got rid of the lip in the crossmember. that is a griffin rad, not the smallest, and the engine is on a R32 cross member with syko mounts. I was amazed how easy it fit once i got going on trying to make it fit.

Well I got my mechanical fan installed. It was every bit of work I feared it would be. I spent about a week working on it mornings and evenings when it was less than 100 outside. I used the r33 rb fan, clutch, and shroud. I turned the back side of the fan clutch on my lathe to make a hub and flat surface for mounting the fan. I trimmed the fan blades leading edges at an angle on the outer ~2". I made radiator mounts on bottom that are raised and moved forward. This lifted the upper rad tank above the lip on the core support to get another 1/4" of spacing- without cutting anything! I made new upper mounts out of 1/8" aluminum.

The temp is staying under control unless it sits for 10+ minutes with ac on max and outside temp 100+. It crept up to 97* C, but quickly cooled down to 88C once under way. The fan moves so much air at idle it is unreal. I have one 12" pusher still on the driver's side like a factory skyline. The computer is controlling it, so it comes on with ac and if temp is 90+ C.

I tried to find a different better fitting fan and a 91-95 v6 pathfinder fan is a good option if you have a little room. Also I think a v6 xterra fan is almost identical to the stock rb fan.

^ wow that's a really clean swap and fan setup. looks great.

anyone have first hand experience with the difference in effectiveness of a clutch fan with and without the shroud?

i've got the dual FAL-210 pullers set up now and it works ok but i've popped relays and melted stuff before. looking for something extra reliable for road courses.

In my s13 my 220 fal fans would pop fuses all the time. I finally got tired of it and fit a rb clutch fan with no shroud. Temps don't go over 83* idling for 20-30 min. i think it was about 96 today in new orleans. I think that's one of the best mods I have done so far.
