They brought it back as a twin-turbo'd V6, didn't they?orangeNblue wrote:Something that may be a little more rare to find but is a quick fuel efficient car is the Taurus SHO. Much different drive and feel than the regular Taurus
Yes, the new SHO's are big, tall, heavy (something like 4400 lbs) AWD, and not attractive (imo). The first two generation SHO;s would be a very nice choice, despite being FWDers. The trick is finding a clean one. Hard to believe how old they are now.IBCoupe wrote:They brought it back as a twin-turbo'd V6, didn't they?orangeNblue wrote:Something that may be a little more rare to find but is a quick fuel efficient car is the Taurus SHO. Yeah, a TTv6 that weighs as much as a Crown Vic and guzzles more gas than either of my V8 performance cars or even the Crown Vic itself. It's a joke. And, more importantly, the exact opposite of the original SHO. The first 3 generations were basic cars with more power, just like classic musclecars. Third-gen even had a very small Yamaha V8 under the hood (which sounded marvelous). Just a taurus with some suspension work and more power. NOT an overcomplex mess of weight, virtually pointless AWD system, and unnecessary turbos.IBCoupe wrote:They brought it back as a twin-turbo'd V6, didn't they?
I have a good friend looking at buying a Flex for his wife. She's upgrading from an Odyssey. I rode in an AWD Flex at a Winter driving school. I was impressed with it and I'm not big Ford fan, so my expectations were low. Very roomy and comfortable. But the Flex does not fit OPs requirements..IBCoupe wrote:The flex looks like it would be happier as a station wagon than as an SUV.
The Flex IS a stationwagon, and is not an SUV. It's not even a crossover. It is literally the Taurus wagon. It just has squared off sheetmetal. Crossovers, SUVs, minivans all have flat floors with raised seats. The Flex has footwells, like a sedan, because it is one, only with a liftgate.IBCoupe wrote:The flex looks like it would be happier as a station wagon than as an SUV.
I wouldn't go anywhere near that land yacht, even though it's not a bad looking car, it's ridiculously heavy and Ford claiming that it gets in the 20's for fuel mileage, when it's lucky to get mid teens, just pisses me off more. It "replacing" the Crown Vic is a complete joke to me, even though I believe the Crown Vic was way overdue for replacement or a complete redesign.MinisterofDOOM wrote:Yeah, new SHO is failtastic. TT 3.5 liter V6 gives you less torque AND less fuel economy than a V8 in the real world. The curb weight of the SHO is ASTOUNDING, the AWD system is NOT performance-oriented, the car is auto-only, and not that great looking...
I told my wife about them and she likes the looks of them. According to autotrader, there's quite a few around her area at dealerships, '08-'10 with nice low mileage. I might have to take a look at these.A33 wrote:I'm a big fan of the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Mazda 6, I'd recommend the Milan right now for the money.
They're nice cars, especially the current generation. I prefer the Fusion or Milan personally, I like the interiors in them better, but underneath they're the same cars pretty much. I drove an '07 Fusion SEL a few months ago for the day and absolutely loved it, had excellent power for a V6 and loved the interior layout. Now i'm comparing it to my I30, but they handle excellent IMHO, the hug the corners very well for what they are. I've driven numerous different variations of the 3 though, i'd say the Mazdaspeed6 and the Mercury Milan Premier V6 have been my personal favorites out of the bunch.Looneybomber wrote:I told my wife about them and she likes the looks of them. This is what I think they should have done. IMO, a big premium sedan just needs to be rwd. Plus, there's just something iconic about the crown vicky/LTD; I mean, they've been our nations police cars and taxis for like two decades.A33 wrote: the Crown Vic was way overdue for replacement or a complete redesign.
After I joined the Air National Guard, but before I had kid #2, so that puts it in Nov '09. Am I not supposed to be married?Kenrik wrote:WHEN DID YOU GET A WIFE>>>>>> ?

Really? It seemed a lot bigger than that. Maybe I'm just underestimating the size of the Taurus.MinisterofDOOM wrote:The Flex IS a stationwagon, and is not an SUV. It's not even a crossover. Freestyle > Taurus X > Flex : All basically the same car, all Tauruses.
Very likely. New Tauruses are HUGE. Really, really big. Bigger than a Chrysler 300. It's even bigger than a Crown Vic as far as width and height go, though the CV is still a big 10'' longer.IBCoupe wrote:Maybe I'm just underestimating the size of the Taurus.
Well, they're not THAT horrible, they got bigger, taller, and heavier which seems to be the opposite direction of the industry given much higher gas prices.IBCoupe wrote:Sounds horrible.
