I didn't think any market other than the US got the 2.6? Vin # is on the firewall, dash, door plate and inside fender plate.

OK,This car has been in storage since 1980,I went in there today and looked for vin tags, there are none except for one by the left strut tower,I took a picture of it but cant figure out to post it yet,It says GS30,2.0 Liter. The block looks to say L20 on it,It has a Kilo speedo, fender mounted mirrors,RHD,the HVAC controls are just JAP markings and no marks/screw or rivet holes where the VIN would be on the dash or doors. It also still has a JAP license plate on it.It does not say 260Z anywhere on the car just Fairlady Z ,I was told that an engineer who built a power plant in Japan in 1978 brought the car home with him from there to Ca,I bought the car 5 yrs ago out of a garage in Pennsylvania,In the car was a receipt for shipping the car from San Diego to Allentown in 1979 for $550.00 paid cash.It was written in pencil and cannot make out any names.I have a PA title on it but the person I bought the car from took ownership of a house/garage where the owner was deceased who I think was the engineer,I don't think he ever registered it in PA.Or maybe even the US.I would like to know if the car is legit and I will put serious money into it.If I can post pics on here I will. Thanks again,Jim.The entire VIN is GS30015690.

Thank you for your help Rogue, when I said new I meant it.I did do a little more research myself and found two of these cars for sale on Tradeview.com in Japan.Turns out Datsun offered the 2.0 over there up until it looks like 78.I also found a Vin on the firewall that says GS30 that matches the tag so I am about 95% the Z is a local model from there.I also loaded up 2 pickup truck loads of OEM parts when I bought it and cleaned out the garage,I got what I believe is a Factory fiberglass G nose from 1971 and a couple sets of the correct hood hinges for it and as seen in the pic 3 sets of Mikuni carbs and manifolds and 2 weber dual sets,Alot of camshafts(new)and a lot of performance suspension parts in boxes.Sets of New bumpers and enough new OEM trim to do 4 cars.I was also trying to find out if the gold/aluminum wheels on the car are OEM,they say Z on the center caps.please keep in mind I got this car 5 yrs ago(now that I looked) and put it away,Im goin on memory which is leavin fast.I need to find a Datsun restorer around NY/NJ/PA or I'll ship it somewhere to the right people. Thanks again.

Yup, the US market had the HLS and RLS vin comes and the larger motors, in japan I'm not sure on the vin I assume the GS is correct, the engine choices were mostly the cheaper L20 or the much more expensive S20. the good news is I see a grand worth of carbs sitting in the drivers seat. unfortunately the RHD tends to be worth less than the RHD counterparts unless it's s an S20 powered 432 or something special.

An LS swapped RHD Z would at least be interesting. There are so many LS swapped Z's and everything else it's kinda boring, don't get me wrong, great motor just over used. Being RHD is a novelty that intrigues some but lost on others, I think the combo would be quite unique. The difference between this and your VR4 is immeasurable in terms of reliability and serviceability.

Japan had a very large tax penalty for engines larger than 2.0L when the Fairlady Z was introduced. Thus all Z's were marketed as Fairladys and did not include a number indicating engine size. A GS30 is simply an S30 body style, right hand drive and the G indicates a 2+2 configuration.

With triple carbs and a more aggressive cam, the 2.0L were rated a 160 HP and came with a 5 speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, the carbs are smaller than desirable in USA engines and the manifolds are not compatible our L series engines.

THere were 2 different 2 liters available in japan, the more common L20A which had less power, 120 or there abouts iirc, and the far more desirable S20 which was the crossflow high revving high power version.
