quick comment about the goo gone...i used it on my pin stripes and it works like a charm, soak the glue, scrub it off with a towel. the goo gone i used was orange color and smelled like fresh oranges, i had fun taking off my stripes. did not harm the paint or clearcoat at all.

Thats because no one likes you freak, that and usually I skip most of your posts as I have yet to get anything out of them. : ) I was stunned you asked an actual question.

Basically the easiest thing to do would be to get some of the aircraft paint stripper, take your valve cover off and strip it down, sand it, and get it all painted up nice with high temperature paint. Its been a while and I can't remember if you need to primer it with high temperature primer, but I would sand the surface up a little bit to make the first coat of paint stick better, then paint a few more coats for a nice, smooth, glossy finish.

An sr20 drop in would be a much more useful sticky.

But to get the newbie questions out of the way your next sticky should show how to take off the shift knob:)

to get rid of the glue completely. Use PPG Acryli-Clean, DX 330. Thats what we use at our shop all the time. If those gay stripes have been on there for a long time it might take a little more elbow grease, but it will work. Last resort Laquer thinner. It will fade the paint but it will usually buff out. Besides your getting a new paint job anyway.

at our shop, we use some stuff called MX8000, its a paint prep material , probably, if you goto you local custom autobody, place, and just bring a spray bottle, the shop will prolly fill that bottle up for free or like $5 (depends if ya know the people or not), and just basically ask for the wax and grease remover that they use to prep the cars b4 painting, stuff works great and does not harm the paint.

I want the doorskins, the under hatch piece as in the piece under the 240SX panel thing, the interior paneling, maybe even the dash, I would do the front fenders but I'm going to be doing either a Silvia or Strawberry conversion, maybe I'll do a Silvia and send you one to make glass copies of all of it for me...

I've stripped, sanded, primered, and painted (high temp.) valve covers in the past...they end up looking pretty nice. However, personally, I don't anything compares to powder coating them. Turns out much better (assuming the person who does it is halfway skilled). I currently have my cover painted in an aluminum color...until I take it in to have it coated.

Just a thought,Dave

Just take it off, strip it and spend about two days polishing it. I did it to mine not too long ago and it looks sweet. It's got that stainless steel restauraunt kitchen counter look, it almost makes me want to cook on it.

Yeah, I understand that... It's just that when I click on "1" to view the beginning of the topic, none of Dauntless' pictures showed up. But they do now. So someone must have fixed something. Geez...

Now I can read and drool and be amazed. Thanks all.
