Wow, my dealer sucks. They're still trying to determine labor but my current tally is about $600 for parts alone....

With my lack of mechanical skill, probably not.

Like I said, it's NOT up to him to LIKE it. He needs to understand his place in the food chain. I'd be more than happy to speak with him if you're uncomfortable with it.

I'm sure Infiniti Corporate would be interested as well.

What's the number to call at Infiniti corporate? I can save probably $200 by going through Scottsdale.

It really does seem better to get parts from one of our sponsors:

http://www.nissanparts.org/

http://www.everythinginfiniti.com/

http://www.infinitiwholesaleparts.com/

http://www.nissanwholesaleparts.com/

Anyone of those outfits will do you right. And then let a decent independent do it.

Fred...:)

I would but I just don't trust the independents in my area. One left my car open with the windows down in a rainstorm, and another screwed up my exhaust.

Personally I would never EVER go to the dealership for repairs unless 1)the vehicle was still under warranty2)there was really NO other option in the area

Seriously MattB, dealearships will (usually) rip you off at every chance they get. Whether selling you a car or fixing one for you.

Unfortunately there is really no other option in my area...there isn't a good Nissan shop anywhere. Parts and labor for everything is totaled at $1495. :jawdrop:

Shop the phone book for foreign car garages. Get your parts from Joe. Save big bucks.

The G engine must also appear in some other Nissan product. Go to the site on the forum that deals with the similar Nissan model and post a message about good garages in your area. You will get a response.

Can't believe that there aren't any good shops in the Boston area. Just have to check it out. The forums will help, I'm sure.

mattb-i traded in a 99 q45 at norwood for a miata a few years back. they asked why i was getting rid of the 99 and i said i was going to a '93 and straight off, the manager (i think that was him) rolled his eyes and reeled off a litany of problems that i should have fixed at HIS shop. i'm not saying the '93 isn't without its maintenance issues, but i remember being distinctly put off at the seemingly scare-the-customer-into-high-cost-repair-bills approach to service. kelly infiniti in danvers has a service manager that i feel more comfortable with, their prices i've heard are cheaper, and i got a loaner car once that i didn't expect. however, having said that, i've been meaning to take them up on an issue i had the last time i was in there, and until i do and have given them a fair chance at addressing it, i couldn't recommend them wholeheartedly--feel free to email me at [email protected] if you want more details, no need to subject them to any public abuse before they've had their turn. good luck.

After reading all these posts, sounds to me like you went to a Ford dealer, not an Infiniti dealer. They won't warrant the "labor" if they don't sell you the parts?????!??? What is wrong with them, it should be the other way around, or are they substandard? Reagan Infiniti in Omaha will let you do just about ANYTHING, it is YOUR CAR after all. It is only their SHOP, (which they now have to share with Woodhouse (formerly Reagan) Mazda. When I got a muffler (under warranty I might add), I was even allowed in the shop and under the car and assisted the tech in holding the muffler up while he attached it to the car. There are signs all over the place, customers not allowed etc, etc, etc...but I didn't push, I just strolled out and struck up conversation with te tech, and before I knew it, he asked, can you help me with this?Find another shop.Axle-$120 reman, $90 laborOil pan-$100 part, $90 labor, $20 gasketValve cover gasket-$12 part, $60 laborMotor mounts $200-Labor $120Lets see, thats about $810 if you buy the parts and have a $60/hr shop install them.... plus tax, of course.

All three mounts can be done in two hours? Infiniti Norwood quoted me something like four hours of labor.

I doubt it would take four hours...That would be a transmission removal or something. Mounts on a G20 are easy compared to the Q. Even the Q is only about 4 hours...I'm no mechanic but have wrenched a bunch of cars...Two hours was a guess using a floor jack, hand tools and a manual.

Four hours of labor for the motor mounts?? A blind man could do it in half the time. When I was still operating out of the hole-in-the-wall garage, I replaced all motor mounts and transmission mount in half that time, with some time to spare.

BTW, check out Unique Auto Care here in Lowell. The number's (978) 654-7423, call and ask for Teek. He's the little asian guy who runs the shop. He's quirky and he's got a missing tooth (don't tell him I said that) but don't be fooled, he earned his stripes working at Nissan and Lexus dealerships. I'm very competent when it comes to Q45 repairs big and small, but when I need to trust any other mechanic, he's the man.

EDIT: My bad, I thought the car in question was a Q45. The prices are even more ridiculous considering the G20 is the most straight-forward member of the Infiniti marque.

Sop, good to hear from you. Are you back in the states for the time being? I hope the mounts are as easy as you say. I've had new ones sitting on the shelf for a while now. Have most of the tools except for a hoist to support the engine.

I'm very tempted right now to tell Infiniti of Norwood to shove it, order parts from Scottsdale, and take them to the place that did my exhaust.

Might be a plan. G20 are not that difficult to work on. Download a manual and TSB first, especially if you have a laptop.

Explain to him that you're a member of NICO, an online Infiniti club with over 14K members that sees 1M hits PER DAY and that you will be reviewing his dealership's policies with us, as well as with Infiniti Corporate.

There is absolutely NO reason for them not to use Genuine Nissan parts from another dealership (other than to price-gouge). If he starts lipping off about warranty, direct him to the reverse side of the service order (there's been discussion on this before).

Actually, they should just match Joe's price if they want your business. And if they're arguing about it THAT much, you may not even want them under your hood - While you could win the argument, you could be in for a nasty surprise once they're alone with your ride (and pissed about being schooled by a customer).

Very few GOOD service managers out there - You may have found one who brought his Texaco station policy manual under his arm when he arrived for work. :rolleyes
I love the new NICO search!!!!

Would any dealer match Joe's price if the car wasn't service there and your just buying parts?

I ask because I need some zip ties with clips that are OEM and no one seems to have them. I want to keep the Q as OEM as possible despite finding out I am 4th owner and not the 3rd owner as I thought. (I want to prove Paranoid Jack WRONG!!! :) )

But like I told the dealer "At $12 I would go bankrupt like Dodge and soon hopefully Toyota"

I didn't look at the date until I read all of page 1 and then looked at some of the names. Then I realized I hadn't seen some of though names in many years.

I do not believe they will price match. Dealers are typically independent of each other. The brand is the only common factor.

Give Joe a call. Shipping shouldn't be too bad.

Damn competition!

I just picked up a newly released AMD 6 core processor for $130 after rebate and bing cashback. I will definitely rep AMD this round :mike

VC gasket and oil pan are probably stupid easy to do on a G20, provided x-member isn't blocking the oilpan.

Never done an axle seal before, but how tough can that be? I've never done mounts, but I've seen them done with just a floor jack under the engine.
