For those of you who have purchased the extended warranty have you gotten your moneys worth?

Consumer reports recommends against buying extended warranties on cars with good reliability ratings.

Our Ms of course have a very good record. I know that repairs on the M are expensive.....just wondering if i should fork over 2 grand now for the warranty or roll the dice.

I have an 06 M35 coming up on 60K miles. No problems now that i can tell.If i need repairs later, coming up with the money is not a problem. I am planning on keeping it for at least another 50K.

If its like my Toyota Tacoma.....156,000.....not a penny spent on anything other than normal maintainance items.....the warranty would be money wasted.

In modern "chock-full-of-electronics" cars today, I strongly recommend having an extended warranty ... see prior posts on the topic.

If you never use it, great. But, the very first time you end up doing some work on your car that is beyond simple maintenance, the cost will have been worth it.

Examples: transmission probably costs over $3500 to $4000 to replace; the NAV system and console electronics replacement cost is right up there too.

I am 90% sure Nav system is not under the extended warranty.

I have only had 1 problem fixed under warranty so far, I cant remember what it was exactly. But it would have cost me $500 or so to get fixed which is 25% of the cost of the extended warranty with just 1 small repair. If anything major happens I am glad I wont have to fork over thousands of dollars.

Are you talkin about renewing a factory warrenty? Can you do that?

Ive always heard bad stories about those aftermarket ones (US Fidelis), so I am wary of comitting to one of those services.

It's the Infiniti Elite Protection Plan......from Inifiniti and it extends the factory warranty.

Enigma1987...according to Courtney in Scottsdale it does cover navi.

Definitely avoid the after-market folks! I have difficulty with them on my old 1995 Q45. Had to argue and then settle for "rebuilt" parts. Unacceptable!

Yes, I am pretty sure that the Infiniti warranty covers the NAV system.

As mentioned above, you can get an Infiniti extended warranty as long as your car is currently under warranty (or if not, then does not have any current problems - tougher to prove, I suppose).

Agreed! Don't do them ...

I think it just depends on the company and the details of the contract. I am sure like anything else that there are crappy ones and great ones.

I do know for a fact that several dealerships use 3rd party providers and it is seamless so calling it an 'extension' is not in effect inaccurate.

Infiniti Elite all the way.

Unlike some of the older or less technology packed vehicles the M can get real pricey. A seat track alone can run $1500, if a mirror starts to act up (see some of the other threads in this forum) it can easily be $1100. The Elite covers everything the factory warranty covers with or without a deductible. If you were to not need it ever than it was like 2 grand in long term insurance for a rainy day.

I have personally seen some people put significant miles on these cars and depending on the level of care they receive their condition can sink fast.

Although build quality is decent and real problems are not that common. There are some random issues and they are not cheap. For some research look into the Q45 forum and read what they recommend you save $2,000-$5,000/ year for maintenance and repairs. While that amount for maintenance on these cars is going to be excessive, that reserve budget would be eaten up with one big repair. As mileage increases maintenance items cannot be overlooked wouldn't you want to keep that as your primary concern.

I think the rates are lowest from 0-20k and then within the factory warranty 4-60, although I don't know if it is between the end of the factory and the end of the powertrain.

when i looked at it, it was a $400 difference between extending the bumper to bumper and the powertrain...$400 seemed worth it considering the types of things you mentioned.

also, and i did not know this at the time...it is cancel-able (sp? lol) so if i sold it and did not want to transfer the warranty (i suppose back to a dealership or something) i could cancel it and get my money returned less whatever is used the most (mileage or time).

Anything other than the "Infiniti Elite" would probably be a waste of money.

If you can get the " Infiniti Elite" for under 2.5k I think it's worth it. It's not a aftermarket warranty, it's a factory warranty.

Another nice thing is you get a loaner car.

I had an Infiniti extended warranty on my M. Hate to say it (I think) but I never used it. It did help me sell my car though, the fact that it was covered.

On the other hand, I also have an '01 QX4 that's covered under an Infiniti extended warranty. To date, I've had about $8k worth of repairs done to my truck under warranty. So I guess, that paid for both warranties and then some. And I have piece of mind when something goes wrong, I just bring it in without the fear of what the bill is going to be.

It's like insurance (or gamb|ing I guess). Sometimes you make out on it, some times you don't.

Many times if you pay a master tech enough he can find warrantable defects you never imagined, whether he can get them passed his Service Manager may require additional compensation or friendship.

The service Manager is penaltized based on the excess warranty funds spent per month per vehicle the dealership sold.

There are days of the months when warranty is easier than other days depending on the start of warranty month.

Important to understand EXACTLY how everything works.

That's right folks come on down to my dealer on Whacky Tuesdays where we warranty everything.

Come on you can't expect people to believe that?

No matter when you come in if you have a legitimate complaint that is covered you will get it fixed. The service directors and upper management to the best of my knowledge get a cut of Gross and warranty doesn't factor into that using the InfinitiNet system.

You must be some type of salesman, you just seem to make stuff up when you don't know.

Just curious, how many miles does your car have on it, and is it currently under the warranty or not?

I agree that getting an extended warranty for a car that is very reliable probably won't pay off. Just maintain the car properly and save the money. You can justify the purchase by thinking of it as buying piece of mind. Also check out WarrantyReports.com they have suggestions on what to avoid and what to look for when buying an aftermarket warranty. http://www.warrantyreports.com

I recently made the decision to purchase the Elite Warranty from Infiniti and sleep better knowing I am covered for the next four years. Check around for prices, I paid hundreds below what Scottsdale Infiniti quoted. The warranty was bought from Circle Infiniti in NJ - Daniella was great to work with.

So what did you pay? I have a similar car. 2006 M45 sport with 39,500 miles. I have until December.

I think It IS a smart move if you plan to keep it. So far under the extended Elite I have had (this is a 2003 Y34 with 49,500 on it now...) Infiniti has replaced the crankshaft positioning Sensor ($500), R&R the gauge cluster due to the fuel gauge issue ($900) and now, while Ken in AZ and I were changing out the spark plugs (hope he post the pics - you won't believe how they look after 50K miles - HINT - not good) we noticed an exhaust leak coming from the drivers side header area. I would guess that is going to be at least another $500 in parts and labor. So I spent $1,401 (Courtney of Scottsdale) on a 36 month 36,000 mile ZERO deductable Infiniti Elite warranty on January 5th of this year AND I have had somewhere in the neigborhood of $2,000 in repairs covered. I still have a little over 2 years and 24,000 miles left. I'd imagine by the time I am done I will have been VERY happy I bought it -- right now I am just happy....

BTW -- we installed the NGK Iridium plugs and they are amazing. It seems to pull a little harder at the higher RPMS -- between 4K and 6K RPMs.

I just purchased a 2006 M35 with a little over 31,000 miles and am now looking into the Infiniti Elite Extended Protection Plan. I first visited my local "Texas" Infiniti dealer and received the below pricing for the 7 year/70K program:- $0 Deductable = $2954- $50 Deductable = $2711- $100 Deductable = $2518

Also contacted Courtney at Infiniti of Scottsdale (she was very helpful) and she was about $600 below the above pricing on each deductable. You can also save around another $150 if you don't finance the deal.

Additionally, I also contacted Daniella in NJ at Circle Infiniti for the same program. She quoted prices that were around $600 below Scottsdale's. However, I think NJ was pricing the G35 package. Trying to confirm pricing now, so be careful.

Now trying to decide between $0 and $50 deduct as I could save a couple hundred bucks by going with the $50...

Seeking any additional feedback from the group as to pricing and value of each option.

Thanks.

I got mine in March 09 for $1,800. I'm guessing the pricing went up or maybe I did a great job of negotiating (and/or got lucky). At the time the car (M45) had 50k+. I got the $0 deductible 7year/100k mile elite wrap. I'm covered for everything for another 34 months or so or 40k miles. So far I have not used it. Mine has the journey package, the tech package and most of the other options.

Good luck.

My opinion has changed from "worth it" to "gotta have it - buy it - mortgage the baby to get it"

Picked up my car today - dealer had it four days to R&R a cracked exhaust manifold (as in one - not both).

My Elite waranty, with zero deductible, picked up the whole tab. How much you might ask? Try $1,312 for ONE freaking side!

So now I am about $600 ahead of the price I paid for the warranty (second item fixed so far -- the other was the gauge cluster replacement @ around $900) . . . and I still have 27 months and 26,000 miles left on the warranty.

I LOVE my Elite warranty - thank you Courtney of Scottsdale Infiniti for wheeling and dealing on the price to convince me to buy it.

The Elite warranty all the way. My question is whether you can get it if you have modded the car???
