I couldn't even begin to guess the amount of broken HPs that come into my dad's work place for repair, the hardware is pretty unreliable.

If I ever get rid of my current Sony, I'll probably go for a Lenovo.

Ok. You did put a solid argument and you did backed up with some evidence.
But I did the same.
I respect your opinion and I do not force you to accept mine.

USA is great we can all have opinions, thats why this country is # 1!
And I did say to buy Toshiba or Sony and than no extended warranty.

As far as this goes, if you come back in this thread and cause more problems, I'll personally make sure you can't again. This sort of retaliation will not be tolerated on NICOclub.

Now let's get this thread back on track. Warranty for a Lenovo? Why or why not?

Except your opinion is wrong. At least according to the vast number of sources. Sure, they sell a lot of computers. That doesn't make them a good brand. Unfortunately, a higher percentage of HPs break than ANY OTHER BRAND. This means that they suck. Not an opinion. FACT!

Or I could go get my uncle's MASERATI MC12 and race you, since we're typing our cars in all caps, and playing in a league that my Z obviously can't compete in.

Ok, back on track. Who hear owns a lenovo? Any issues? And, assuming you believe one of the links I posted, it looks like 13% of Lenovo laptops have issues within the first 2 years. And it is estimated that 21.5% will have an issue after 3. Just food for thought...

Okay, my wife has a Lenovo G550 I bought for her last xmas -- solid as a rock

I have a Lenovo T410 here at work -- even bigger POS than my old HP N6400 used to be.

Any laptop brand is bound to have a few bad eggs, and IMHO, the OS and software config for the machine has more to do with noted stability and performance issues than the hardware 75% of the time. I'm willing to bet that my T410 would rock the balls off that N6400 if they had identical images.

To the OP, please post the computer you are looking at. More then likely you may not be getting a good/great deal. We can help you find something awesome for that amount of money.

This. As an example, I picked up an Acer with a core i5 460m, nvidia geforce gt420m, 4gb ddr3 ram and a 500gb hdd for $750 shipped off newegg.

This is what I'm currently looking at from a recommendation from a co-worker. My decision is subject to change as better options comes along through recommendation. Here is:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834146986

-Looking to spend no more than $750 shipped.
-Will use it for casual gaming(Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes TOV), web browsing

The first part may be fact but saying they suck is still an opinion. Just saying.

As for the warranty question from the OP, I wouldn't bother. I've got four HP computers in the house. If I bought an extended warranty on each, I'd have spent an extra $320 (based on the cost you stated). I have had some problems but it cost me a total of about $100 to fix. The motherboard on my desktop gave out. I replaced it with a better one for cheap. A sound board on a laptop went out. Found the part on Ebay for $5.00. HP posts their service manual online which has disassembly instructions. Easy fix. Would it be better to use a more reliable brand? Maybe. But everytime I shopped for a new computer, HP blew away other brands in terms of cost. One caveat is I generally customize the computers I buy as retail models tend to not have certain things I want and/or the ones that have those features have much more than I need putting it out of my budget. And only a few brands offer customizable options.

Another option is if you have a Costco account and can find a laptop that fits your needs there, Costco extends the warranty to 2 years at no charge. If you really want an extra year, you might see if the laptop you want is on Costco's website and see what the total cost difference is. Keep in mind also that some of their products include shipping and some don't, so make sure you account for that. And as PMQ said, Slickdeals is awesome. I got my TM2T over the summer with every option except the 8GB RAM (I stuck with 4GB) for less than the retail model that is minimally equipped using a coupon code that was posted there. Make sure you search their forums for deals as well.

ThinkPads are full of nice subtle little touches you'd have a hard time finding anywhere else.

Do they fetch a premium? Yes. Are they certainly overbuilt for your average consumer? Yes. Would I buy another brand if Lenovo offered what I was looking for? No. Well, maybe. I hear Toshiba builds a good one.

Warranty? I buy used ThinkPads. They're rugged enough that by the time they break I've gotten my money's worth.

And arguing that a computer brand that is defective at 2-3x the rate of other brands doesn't suck is a tough point to prove. A $500+ paperweight is a pretty crappy deal. Just saying.

Laptops are fairly cheap and become outdated pretty quickly. I wouldn't get an extended warranty for one.

Yes I repair a lot of compaq/hp laptops. Yes we have over 80 years in the IT industry combined. Yes my grandfather has been doing this for 50+years. Yes my tech has been in PC repairs among other things since 1984. Yes I have had a computer since I was 5, and been on the internet since little before 1998.

For the price of repairs, performance, cost of the PC itself, and to be honest quality, HP is the way to go. Toshiba is very nice as well, as their PC's used to be really high end, and you didn't see too many because of this, meaning repairs were low.

Everything is made in China, doesn't matter who makes it.

Asus has been around for a very long time. And Asus is making a good computer for a good price right now.

Warranties are only a way to make money, I sell them as well, and half the time customer doesn't use them.

I am a 15 year old business, Microsoft certified partner for 15 years, and a Microsoft authorized refurbisher. HP is actually a good computer, no matter what you guys say. They sell a lot, I fix them a lot, yes. But not as bad as Emachine or Gateway.

I am also a authorized dealer of: HP, Acer, Gateway, Dell, Lenovo, IBM, Asus, Compaq, just to name few. We also fix Mac's but I am not certified yet.

And yes, I am a big business, and yes I pull well into 6 figures. Yes I sell 1.8 with 512 ram 40gb drive with XP for $75 bucks.

And yes you should buy an HP. However, Lenovo is a great brand as well just not as common, so sales are low, and repairs are as well, whereas HP is very common, widely used, makes really nice notebooks (check out a HP Probook 4710s) and has a lot of repairs because of the able to sell and promote their goods.

Lets see some haters, hatin' on me!

Oh and plus I have 2 stores, and will be expanding into the near future. I have currently over 2 million in inventory, and we only stock parts that are needed frequently.

I like my Hp lappy. Althought it took a while to find a win7 pro 32bit system with okay specs for $400.

Pretty happy with it but batt life could be more than 3hours.
