I've got a 96 240.

I'm wondering what is too big for piping on a ka24de (over 60?).

I don't mind losing a little torque, and I don't mind loudness, the reason I ask is I may swap the sr20 eventually and don't want to get a new exhaust.

I'm looking at the greddy's or gt spec... but I don't know which route I should take.

I'm not sure of which exhaust is which size, but 3" is perfect for daily driving and you won't need to upgrade if you decide to go turbo.

badass...

If I remember correctly... 23.4 mm in an inch, so 3 inches would be 70mm.

Can anyone back this up, and what are my choices in 3 inch? Everyone just lists n.a. versus turbo, not 2.5 inch or 3 inch or 3.5.

IMO, 3" is usually really loud. Even with a turbo, you don't need 3" exhaust until you go above the ~280-300HP mark. I have teh HKS Hiper (2.5ish") and its fu*king great. It sounds *BEAUTIFUL*, great power gains, and HKS is a quality company. Personally, I wouldn't go for GReddy exhaust. It sounds horrible on every single car I've heard it on. I'd stick with HKS, A'Pexi or Blitz.

3" will be perfect for turbo application. Need proof?

Muffler choice is pretty much up to the individual. I have dual DTM style tips.

good luck!

apex makes great stuff, sometimes it expensive, buts its great quality, and does what it says. I love my N-1 single, and havent heard a bad thinga bout it other than "do you know how ****ING loud that thing is when your passing me?"

between the nur spec r and apex n1 single.

n1 single shipping is like 100 bucks, but still be less than nur.

loud is good.

I'm in the same dilema, which to get, HKS Hiper and Apexi N1 single is what i have it narrowed down to. Is that 10 mm piping that big of a difference???

Yes. A buddy of mine w/ teh dual (Speedracer1) has a hatch w/ an SR20 and the N1 dual, and its HELLA loud. Stick with smaller piping, i'm telling ya. The Hiper is loud, but definitely managable. The N1 is too loud for my tastes. Attracts wayyyy too much attention. And the Hiper is sooooooooooo smooth! my GOD, i love it.

I got the HKS Hiper muffler 65mm opens out to 75mm and then opens out to 85mm at the big four bolt flange under the diff with 5 1/2" tail, also fitted the hks downpipe, great sound and smooth power and the turbo seemed to spool up easier, great exhaust IMO

HKS Ti. is the way to go. It has somewhat small 4" piping with a titanium canister. Seriously though, if you plan on doing the SR swap, I would go ahead and buy an exhaust with 3" piping now because depending on your plans for the SR, smaller piping may become a bottleneck. Apex-i N1 or Blitz Nur-spec are both great exhausts.

Does anyone have any sound clips online of either the Apexi N1 or HKS Hiper systems?

I was just going to post that exact question.

If I could hear a single n1 and a hiper I could decide.

on the dual it isn't nearly as expensive because it is two pieces. the N1 single is the one that is very very expensive, because its over 9ft long, one piece

why do you tell me this now?

I was set on the single... but if the dual is not 100 bucks shipping too then wtf...

But I may go sr or turbo so isn't the single still a better choice?

I think I remember chet saying shipping for 2 piece exhaust should be like 20-40. Probably wrong again though.

Lean towards the performance factor and not the decibal level...

 that's why i was asking about the turbo.

I will probably end up with dual if there are no back flow problems with a turbo.
