EX35 Exhaust Note

Hello

I'm new to the EX community after owning a 06 G35 coupe for the last 6 years, I went out and bought a 2012 EX35 with 67k miles on it. Long story short I took the car in for service today due to the Navi display doing it's blackout thingy, and the Camelback Infiniti gave me a 2017 QX50 for my loaner car. The difference was night and day between the two cars, and when I returned the loaner I asked my SA about the exhaust on the 17 and why doesn't my car sound like that.

He said the tech notice the same thing and didn't find any leaks in the system and didn't understand why it didn't have that awesome growl that Infiniti's have been known for. I miss it, I want it back, and i'm ears are open to any suggestions to get that stock howl and growl back into my EX.

Not so sure if anything changed with the 2017, but otherwise the EX/QX50 has a quiet exhaust. There's plenty of videos on YouTube of examples. It seems to grow for 30 s or so on a cold start up, then quiets down. On my old EX35 I had a G37 exhaust put on and it was much deeper. I also seemed to get some hp and mileage out of it. Something about the AWD complicated the install though requiring a custom Y-pipe. Non-AWD is a direct bolt on.

Thanks Teknical for the feedback, I have read a few post on this site that have mention the G37 exhaust mod for a deeper note. Exactly what parts did you change out to get that exhaust note? Y, Mid and muffler, or a different variation of those parts?

Sorry I'm not exactly sure. I had it done at a Nissan motorsports place. They said something about the AWD was in the way, so they had to change the pipe position a bit via cutting and welding. It took them about 2 hours total. Original cats were left in place and it looked pretty normal under the car, just a wider pipe.

The EX35/37 y -pipe is exactly the same as the coupe.

I had the same problem after purchasing my ex35.

I was able to find a 2012 g37S coupe muffler on craigslist for $15.

It was night a day difference to my gas mileage.. I love the sound a little too much..

Mine toned down a lot after driving for 2 years,but still has a better sound than my stock Q40 exhaust.

After getting it installed on Tuesday I must say that the car keeps whispering to me about taking it out on the road and drive, drive, drive The acceleration at the high range gives the EX a whole new attitude on the road. The car is already fun to drive just being stock, but this upgrade takes it to a whole new level in my opinion.

I just popped in a 2012 G37s muffler and it does sound nice. I have the Y pipe and the mid-pipes also (got them all for $80 with only 20K miles on them)
I think I will put in that mid-pipe this weekend for even better sound and a little performance increase too!

Anyone need a Y pipe or a EX muffler?

AWGD8 - quick question... I have watched your videos, first just the muffler change and then the mid-pipe change also. I do like the sound of the mid-pipe change on top of the muffler.
* Can you tell me if it helped your MPG and acceleration responsiveness?
* Also - Was it a direct swap? I have read some places that you need to remove just under 2 inches so the hooks line up, but I also read that was just for the AWD versions and the RWD versions are the same?
I can probably just take it to a shop to have them do either way, but I was curious to know before I went through the effort!

Just chiming in to answers your questions from my exhaust upgrade
MPG - Yes i've seen a 3 to 5 mile difference in the City and on the highway, and over the weekend I was getting 37 MPG going to Tucson.
Acceleration and responsiveness - Initially no in the mid range, but yes at the low and high ends of pushing the pedal. I still had that infamous Infiniti book down when trying to accelerate at the mid range. I added the K&N drop filters in my stock boxes, and that made a difference for the mid range acceleration. and probably help the MPG as well
Direct fit- Yes and No, the mid pipe was a direct bolt on, but we had to remove the mid pipe brackets off the muffler and reseat them to match up with the mating brackets. It was easy and I was on my way in less then 30 minutes after the install.
Performance wise I'm very happy with the upgrade after 3 months, and it gave me G-Note that I was missing from my 2006 G35 Coupe

I love the idea of better MPG and performance. I get 19 in the city on short little 5-7 mile trips and about 24-26 on the highway. Not bad but why not make it better!

I'm looking to improve the exhaust note on my new (to me) EX35. Will this option bolt right up to AWD models as well?

I'm surprised by the lack of aftermarket support for the EX35 specifically. I guess that's in correlation to sales numbers, but I'm surprised this car didn't sell more. I think if they would have marketed it as a G Wagon and looked at the upper market WRX/STi hatch buyers like the a4 Avant, it may have been better.

Sorry for the threadjack, but is there a list of G37 aftermarket parts that fit on the EX35? Intake and exhaust were what I'm after most.

OK I installed the G 37S coupe mid pipe to the Coupe muffler and the EX stock Y pipe.
The mid pipe is definitely between an inch and a half to 2 inches longer. I did not remove the hangers, I bent them with a sledgehammer and that worked. The muffler hangers are stretched to the limit but still in the original position and the exhaust tips stick out a little farther than normal but probably not noticeable unless you're looking for a difference. It definitely sounds better and runs better. Very happy I did this and very curious as to why it didn't come like this ???

For example, the air filters are the same in the G37 / EX, but the aftermarket intakes might be just a little bit different. The G37S Coupe muffler is a direct swap. The Mid-pipe is just a tad longer on the G...
Another example is I bought a real nice M45 black leather shift knob with white stitching for my EX, but I had to do a minor mod to the shaft so the clip would lock in since they were just slightly different lengths.
Believer it or not, Ebay/Amazon can help as they sometimes correctly show if a part designed for one car will fit on another (but you can't always trust it, just a starting point in your research)

There is some good info in this forum's history also. Have some coffee and do some searches.

Excellent reply, thanks a lot! From what I've seen, there's a Stillen CAI, but that seems to be the only brand, and not cheap. From the reading I've done, I think I'm just going to buy some K&N drop in filters. I have a K&N intake on my s2000 and love the sound under throttle, I was hoping to get some of that in the EX, but not sure if it's possible without an actual CAI? As for the exhaust, I think I'll keep an eye out for a G37S muffler. I'm assuming aftermarket G37 mufflers would work as well then, so I'll watch for those too. Does just the muffler alone add much sound? I'm not looking for really loud, but it's a V6, I want a nice deep tone with some growl.

Love the S2000 sound also. I am a big Honda nut also and my kids are now also. One with a lowered SI with some HFP wheels, CAI and Skunk headers, pipe and muffler. That puppy SCREAMS when you hit VTEC and if he ever puts Hondata in it, I can only imagine how fast that would be....My other son has a lowered TSX with S2000 wheels on it. I had the original 07 RDX with Hondata and it was also a screamer ...but I digress...

I dropped in the K&N's in the EX35 also and I always think they help the car breathe just a little easier...but I don't think they really make any sound difference like an intake does. The G37 coupe exhaust will make up for that! The muffler itself does make a difference and the mid-pipe on top of it gives it even more sound plus definite performance improvement. Much more responsive.

Nice, those sound pretty sweet. I did the UK mod to my exhausts and the K&N FIPK and it's the perfect combo. I might add more, but I'm pretty happy with it as is.

My EX35 is my winter/camping etc vehicle so I probably won't do a lot to it, the price of an actually CAI doesn't seem worth it, unless I can finda deal on a used one. The G37 exhaust I'll definitely so when I can find one though. Is there a difference with the G37S exhaust?

It looks to be in 3, well 4 parts, 2x muffler, a mid and a y pipe. Based on the reading here, these mufflers should be bolt on, and the dual mid pipe is what would need to be modified? Want to make sure I'm buying the correct part.

I just knew by looking at it that it was off of a sedan, but I am glad that the seller confirmed that for you and didn't waste your time or money.

Correct - The Sedan has two smaller mufflers, one for each side. The Coupe has one larger muffler, just like the EX. The coupe muffler is a direct swap. The coupe mid-pipe needs a slight mod, but nothing major

I believe so. That is the exact same assumption that I have for the OEM Exhaust swap.
