Haha, I was hoping you'd respond to this. I know people in the run groups I've been with that just don't listen.

I'd say the d-bag portrayed in this video is like a lot of car enthusiasts I know, but the guy actually goes to track days.

"I'm super fast."

No you aren't.

"Well you haven't seen my car on 18 psi."

No but my friend beat you in his Mk 5 GTI, stock.

"Yeah, my tires were beat that day and my TPS keeped messing up, but that's fixed now."

He had a car full of fat people.

"Whatever Dude."

And that was every meet I went to in high school.

Now that depends who were talking about. Regular jackoffs on all seasons with a SR20DET and a bunch of IHateStickers decals all over his car, sure the driver is going to make much more of a difference. Professional drivers, now that comes down to the car more often than not. For example, Jacques Villeneuve was a world champion because of Adrian Newey (who may make a world champion soon out of Mark Webber).

well... yeah... but what i'm getting at is the people that show up in Vettes thinking they're gonna smoke any 4 cylinder car there jsut because they're car is "the s***"...... they don't realize that some of those dudes in miatas actually know how to drive

Ah, I see where you're going. Yea, those folks would fall under the "regular jackoffs" category.

You must admit though, even at our level car makes a massive difference. I know a ton of ST and HS folks that have much better driver fundamentals than I do and have a better feel for late braking than I do, but because my car is better, I pull at least 2-3 seconds (on a so/so day) faster pass time. On the flip side of this, I know a slew of BSP/ASP drivers that I'm better than, but I've little chance due to their superior vehicle.

Instructors help BIG TIME. Riding with the guidance of an instructor took a good 4 seconds off my time.

High Performance Driver Education.

We're talking about very few people that behave that way at track events. A good friend of mine who instructs for the Ferrari Club said it's more common at Ferrari events than at most other clubs. Though the vast majority of Ferrari owners are fine. If you're a patient instructor, that kind of student is not a big deal. Just makes for fun stories later on.

I tend to keep my mouth shut during track events unless I am asking (usually stupid) questions. Thank goodness Jim, Joel and Sean have patience.

I didn't think any of your questions were stupid.

As long as someone wants to learn and they're not being a cockbucket, I have patience for days.

What are you doing tomorrow? There is a BMW autocross in Bowie, Maryland that I'm going to in the mid morning.

It's a hard concept to learn until you've seen it in person. Like Torry putting down 3 consecutive 1:00 lap times at Carlisle in a stock rented Camry, when most doriftobois can barely scratch 1:06 in their modifieds.

anyone that comes to me for advice is easily tolerated and i'll do anything i can to help or send them to someone who is more knowledgeable on the subject at hand... anyone that thinks they are schumacher on their first day would be more likely to have my torque wrench rammed up their a** than anything
