To be more specific.... a 2005 Legacy Gt.... It has less power then the G35 for sure...

But i still think its a beauty car... and lol its factory turboed.... but still pushes 250ish HP...

Anyone have thoughts on this car, also this legacy is about $10 000 cheaper then a G35 in the same year range and Miles....

it's a different level of car,

there is nothing luxury about the legacy

we been trying to get a 04 to 05 sti but couldn't get it for the price we wanted ~$16k usd

I lurked on nosiac forums for a while and concluded that it is sti or nothing

I agree with you guys. It is not the same level. It is not luxury car at all. Wrx sti is a fast damn car but that's about it. If you want a fast car with awesome handling and don't care about the luxury car go for the wrx sti. Legacy I don't know I can't see myself in it for sure. I've seen a 2005 focus saleen(only 75 made) demo car only 500+ miles with nitro all from saleen goes for $18000. It is faster than your G. I would buy that instead of the legacy. It is basicaly brand new. Sorry guys I just like it. I know it is a Focus.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

I actually did consider it very much, drove it and really loved the pick up it had. The main thing that is and did turn me away is the after market parts available for it, I am looking for a more upscale car to purchase. I am not financially at the point yet where I can buy a CLS or any other high end car so I decided to take the middle of the road Infiniti. Also I really like the engine sounds on Infiniti's.

The new Subarus are crap. Bought top of the line outback HR3.0 4 years ago because of their bullet proof reputation. Here's a list of dislikes:

1) Auto transmission's shift algorithm sucks. Can't ever seem to find the right gear when accelerating hard

2) AC compressor went out at 40k

3) Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) went out a 50k ($600 to replace). The replacement went out six months later (different symptoms - dealer charged $139 to diagnose but replaced free)

4) Eats brakes (replaced all four corners @ 24k

5) Build quality is not good for a $30k+ vehicle. Wind noise from window gaps almost right off the lot. Leather didn't hold well.

6) Crappy dealer attitude.

Read all kinds of clutch problems with the WRXs on forums that Subraru refused to address.

We have a 1998 Subaru Legacy GT wagon with the 165 hp normally aspirated 2.5 liter engine. Mileage on the car is now 176k. Its reliability has been less than impressive. We have had to repair or replace the following: rear struts twice, one ABS sensor and the controller, leaking head gasket, rear differential, one rear wheel bearing, both front brake calipers (slides frozen). The transmission has been making bearing noises since about 85k miles and the clutch is now marginal. In the next year or so, I expect to rebuild the transmission and replace the clutch.

I would expect a turbocharged Legacy to have more engine problems, especially if the weak head gasket has not been completely corrected. Also, I have never found a turbo that could match the responsiveness of a normally aspirated engine.

Our alternative to the Legacy was an Audi A4 V6 Quattro. We went with the Legacy because the A4 cost half again as much and was known to be expensively unreliable. I have always had the feeling that the Legacy was intended to be a poor man's A4.

Unless the G35 owners on the forum disagree, I would advise you to look for a G35 instead of a Legacy GT. Whatever you buy, have a good mechanic go over the car thoroughly, first.

Traded the 2003 Outback H 3.0 VDC (basically the 4wd version of the Legacy GT), mentioned in the previous post, at 63k, for a G35s. Had a feeling something major was going to go wrong with it.

Yes, it may be $10k less, but if its got reliability issues and not as fun as the G, is it worth it in the long run?

Subaru was riding high for a while when the new Outbacks and WRXs came out. But the reliability that was part of the appeal seems to have gone away. The engine itself may be okay but the ancilliaries: brakes, AC, transmission, is marginal, in my opinion, for the prices they're currently charging.

Styling have also fallen behind. Compare the new WRX STIs with the new Mitsu EVO X.

I have a 07 Legacy GT. I've been pretty happy with it so far. You can easily make and surpass the G35s stock power and it will be a lot better in the winters. All you would need is a uppipe, downpipe, and cobb accessport and you should be around STi levels. The Legacy shares a long block with the STi, but has a smaller turbo. Something else to think about is the new WRX is on the legacy platform and has the same turbo configuration so there is going to be a lot more aftermarket support coming.

The G35 is a pretty car and is holding resale value a lot better. I would suggest test driving both back to back and seeing which fits you better.

I think most the people who posted in the thread aren't aware of what the 05+ Legacy is like. It isn't the low class sedan it use to be and it certainly can't be compared to a WRX. It's a sport sedan aspiring to be at the low end of luxury sedans.

My friend owns a new Legacy GT (5 speed manual). He has exhaust and reprogrammed ECM (supposedly 300hp +) and brags all the time how he smokes G's and 350Zs. Personally I don't see how this is possible considering that car weights 4000 lb. It also handles like ****.

Some of the interior trim seems nicer than my 04 G Sedan, although personally I still prefer G interior.

I'm 6'0 and REALLY lack leg room in the passenger seat.

Overall, it is a nice daily driver, but it is not a sports car!

The legacy may not have the refinement the G has but it has a lot of potential being a FI car. It has leather seats (heated), navi etc plus with a Cobb AP stg 2 reflash+exhaust mods you will be at 300 hp/345 tq. Plus if you are looking for the goodies you could opt for the Spec B model which has a more sportier feel.

I own both the Legacy is MUCH faster than the G or any 350Z I have come across. I have turbo back exhaust intake and a Cobb access port. The 2005+ LGT are far apart from the rest of the Subaru lineup, they I would say are more of a entry-level luxury performance sedan. The fit and finish may be a bit better on the G but the performance potenial really isn't close at all. Oh and the LGT is far from 4000lbs it really is quite small about the same length as the G but weighs a touch over 3300lbs.

My 2007 G35 vs a WRX

If you just want cheap fast buy a SRT+4 Neon. I see them running uncorrected mid 13's at the track all the time.

If you want fast Lux under 40k the G is the way to go.

I had a 2003 WRX 5-speed with HKS Intake, Downpipe, a Cat-delete before I got my 03 Coupe 6MT.

Two very, very different cars. No doubt, the WRX was insanely fun to drive between stoplights...I was addicted to the throw-back the turbo gives you after 3k RPM. The car definitely had explosive power in a relatively small powerband and felt much faster than it was (it was by no means slow). AWD was great on the mountain...but RWD is so much more exhilarating.

I would never return to a WRX from the G35.

Cant compare a 2.0L Rex to a 2.5L LGT, FWIW I ran 13.6 @100 mph in 100 degree temps and with a oem gutted downpipe. Depends on how fast you want to go, G's are good for mid 13's for a little bit of dough. But for $3K a LGT can be running 11's, different leagues in all forms.

Not fast compared to what?

The Subies are not Luxury sport...so it's not really a fair comparison.

So for your first post here on NICO you made a weak attempt to flame a valued member here??

Let's hope your follow up posts are actually meaningful. Or you can just go away..

i almost got a 2007 sti limited but the 2005 g35x won me over with the better interior and actual luxury feel. the sti felt faster but thats the only catagorie it wins in... i was willing to lose some power to gain more luxury. to me, the g35x balances power and luxury very well. plus the g35x has a "grown man" look you dont get with a sti.

I once thought about getting a subaru. I was fresh out of high school. At the time I was also thinking about getting hello kitty tattoos down my neck and wearing polkadot skirts from the local old navy. But my hairy legs weren't for showing off. Plus I didn't want a Jay Cutler haircut to go with my pink star shaped dollar store sunglasses. So Instead I bought a nissan product. Now I'm a man in a G35x. All jokes aside, Subies aren't bad cars, they just have very few good cars. And for the guy who said the legacy is 4000lbs, it would be, if a 300lb dude could fit in the car somewhere along with his almost 300lb girlfriend. The car weighs 3300 to 3500lbs, depending on motor and trim level. G_woods is a manly name. No homoism there... and then there is the comparison between a generally RWD luxury sport sedan to a pocket rocket supercute subaru. I like the WRX, dont get me wrong, and The Legacy is a sharp looking car, but they aren't 2 cars to compare to a G. Subaru really has no cars to compare since there are no AWD compacts out there. civic? sentra? corolla? cavalier/cobalt/crapchute? neon/caliber/wtf? focus/fusion/mazda3/corporate automotive rape-victimization? Suzuki aero? Yugo? Pow-Pow-Power wheels? No, i dont see any direct competition for them...

I work at a VW/Suby dealer. Subaru has a very high build quatlity, and are very reliable. 90% of the work we do in suby's is maintiance.

I am a big fan of the Legacy GT. I would like to have one as a daily driver and just keep the G for weekends. They handle very good, have great power and are well appointed.

It is by no means a luxury car. But it is very comfortable to drive, and enjoyable.

Just my .02

There is no way you would find a used 04-05 STi for 16K. Especially back in 07 when this post was made. Thats like finding a G35 coupe for that price lol.

OP it all falls on you. The Legacy is a car far from belonging in the mud, and it isn't up with the G either. It's a middle-ish car, closer to the G than anything.

It also depends on what you want out of a car:

If you want power go with the Legacy. You can make it run alot faster with WAY less money. I got my STi because I planned on making power. I swapped in my SR on my 240 for power but that didn't go so well... bad engine

If you want to have a comfortable "luxury" ride then get a G.

I was comparing a G to an STi in one of my threads before I bought my car, simply because I couldn't decide. It turned into a flood fest of NICO dudes saying you can't compared the two... well no sh*t, that's why I made a thread, to attempt to compare them, not for people to tell me what I already knew. Then I thought a car doesn't make a man. Just cuz you rock a G does NOT mean you're grown up by any means. It does not mean you're sophisticated or anything, it means you have money, and with the price of leggies and STi's, they show you have money too.

A car is a car, period. Get it for what you want. You want transportation and MPG, get a camry, you want power, get an STi, you want leather and nav, get a G.

EDIT:

Just to mix things up a bit...
